Violater... very good... I've listened to it all once, and
have it on now... each song sounds very strong, and I think
I will really grow to love this... plus, I absolutely love
the song Enjoy the Silence, which is the reason I bought it
really... it's one of my favorite songs no doubt!

violator is my fave. I like halo most probably. it's great.
it is indeed strong and striking at the beginning, but
unlike complex autechre and such, it wears off quick.

Some Great Reward is my fave Mode. Both of the singles
compilations are must haves too. I fucking LOVE 80's
production values.

buy?

I have enjoyed Depeche Mode for a nice while though... just
haven't bought any albums of theirs until now... I remember
hearing Enjoy The Silence when it first came out, and that
cool video... it's been one of my fav songs since then...

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2003-05-09 21:43 [#00692452]

well, Enjoy the Silence mainly... just adore the song!

plus I've read good things about it, and have seen it
mentioned here a few times...

what is your favorite album of theirs if I might ask?

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2003-05-09 21:47 [#00692455]

I really enjoy the song Blasphemous Rumors as well... I love
the lyrics... even though I've grown up in a Christian home,
and have had those beliefs engrained in me, I see this song
just as an angry questioning of God and all that... and you
should question things...

i love XTC's "Dear God" for its lyrics and i'm a devout
christian, so i know what you mean

same with dead prez & talib kweli's "schuffering and
shmiling" and saul williams' "wine"

its a difficult one to call

but id have to say 'some great reward' from 1984 which was
when i really got into them. i'd only known 'new life' up to
then but people are people and master & servant are so
catchy, somebody is so sad & emotonal, and i think this
album is where they really came into their own.

also, i must add the 2 sinlges after thisd album in 1985 are
probably my 2 favouite tracks (don't think they even made an
album). they were shake the disease and it's called a heart,
both 12" singles which i have played to death. the shortened
versions (when i say shortened i mean 7" versions but a
closer listen you would thenik the 12" versions are the
proper versions and the 7" versions HAVE been clipped)
really don't do them justice. maybe you can find them on
slsk, i think its forgivable to download these, you'd be
struggling to find them anywhere else! :)

violator is my favorite for its straight through quality; i
skip around on their newer ones (songs of faith and
devotion, ultra). music for the masses is also kick ass, as
well as black celebration.

Violator is awesome! Get Music for the Masses, too. Oh, and
Songs of Faith and Devotion. OKay, just get all of them.
Even Speak and Sepll is worth it simply because its a riot!

"I take pictures... photographic pictures..."

"This aint no disco!"

*roll eyes*

the Silence, Policy of Truth, and Blue Dress... amazing
stuff!!

haha personal jesus = musical masturbation, baby! But its
awesome. :) If I had had ot choose one favorite, it would be
Sweetest Perfection! I also love Blue Dress and Clean... all
of them are awesome. Its like one of those amazing records
where everything--EVERYTHING--just goes together perfectly
well! Its like another Choirgirl Hotel to me. ;)

violater is DA BOMB! my most fav from Violater.....
- world in my eyes
- waiting for the night

you should check out exciter tho.......it's good, but you
can't really compare it to their earlier stuff like
Violater....Dave Gahan's voice is one of the best in rock
IMO.

My fave was always Black Celebration. It was so mindblowing
and groundbreaking back in 1986 when I bought it. I was 13
:) After that I bought everything. I have almost all the 7"s
and 12"s from 'dreaming of me' to "World in my eyes".

Im pretty proud of that collection. So if anyone wanna throw
a Depeche Mode party....
