I was rewatching American Pie 2 last night, and I was wondering whether those party scenes were true to life. I've certainly never been to a party remotely like that -- I've been to (generally) two types of party - the first, when I was at school and just after, concerned a small group of friends getting drunk and stoned (and later high on speed) and having a good time, with maybe 20 of us, girls and boys. The second species of party I've encountered, was when I was in my early 20s, which concerned after-club parties, where large groups would congegrate at a house or flat, and dance to techno if there were decks, take lots of speed (and maybe Es), maybe drop some acid, and then get royally wasted, and normally end up as a small group in a bedroom discussing the "great truths" that people on speed, E and hash will cause you to babble about. But hell, I've never seen a goddam party like the ones I saw in American Pie 2! Are they for real!? |

In a word, orgies :) But yeah, most house parties I go to are exactly like you described... probably the maddest one I went to was a small rave in an abandoned warehouse, that had acid available on the door and a curtained section with matresses for shagging. |

I think that these parties are unrealistic - I think most American house parties are akin to the one shown in "Weird Science". The parties that you mention sound pretty much the same as the ones I go to / have been to in Newcastle. They're usually a bit wank, actually. Just loads of drug-related banter. Boring as fuck. At the moment I am living in Lithuania, and the parties here are also rather similar, but not at all illegal-drug fuelled, they're always total vodka-fests. I have also been to a few parties with foreign students studying here (French, German, Spanish, Italian and Swedish people). Although the people are all lovely and friendly, and the parties are far less pretentious than those I go to back home, these have always been relatively sedate "dinner-party" type affairs, with crap music and general politeness. Also very dull. Perhaps I just don't like parties, what with being such a complete miserable git. |

C'mon guys! I had some great times at those drugged-up parties! :D It was the drugs of course, but it was still great - tho I've been to my fair share of those parties full of fucking snobs, where if you aren't wearing the right gear or have money to throw about then they think you're a lowlife ;) |

well i mean... ive had friends throwing up off balconies, having sex in their hot tub with people walking around, ive sled down some stair cases in sleeping bags a few times in my day, sprayed this girls car with three cans of shaving cream (cause i didnt like her), built bon fires in the middle of the woods, went cliff jumping at 1am when its pitch black all typesa fun shit - all while under the influence of all sorts of things - but american pi kids are pussies - they run around with cups destroying daddy and mommy's palace we ran around getting as messed up as we could - and we had fun! |
