i was listening to royal astronomy after a really long time
today and i forgot how great it was...what i find even more
amazing is that by now i thought squarepusher started all
this drill n bass style (with go plastic album), but its
quite clear to me that mu-ziq was the first out of big three
to do this, not that it matters who started it, but he's
really not getting enough attention here (opposed to
autechre hehe).
anyway, i cant wait to get his new album (i totally love
what i've heard so far)

You thought Go Plastic was the start of drill'n'bass?

no, but i thought out of aphex, ziq and pusher, pusher was
the first one to do it

hmm, is it? :)

for me the two real representative albums of drill n bass
would be go plastic and drukqs
but there are some tracks on royal astronomy that are the
same style as well

in some circles of thought, autechre are considered the
pioneers of drill and bass. squarepusher simply offered a
sped up form.

I'de say the Hangable Auto Bulb eps are probably his most
dnb oriented releases

Dude drill was started (supposedly) with Plug, early drill
is shit like everyday and laughable butane bob (still some
of my fave drill tunes......the afx drill tracks where he
DOESN'T just sound like he's ripping off squarepusher)

i don't know if the "dude" in question is me or not, but i'm
just quoting what others have said. i don't know or really
care who started it. in my opinion, the best drill and bass
is squarepusher. aphexs drill and bass work is my least
favorite material of his.

yeah, vibert definately started that shit...but its great
with the others who make it....though now it seems its a bit
overdone...give it a rest and such....scrape is a beautiful
song on RA..i thnk thats the name, the 3rd track on there.

Aphex actually INTRODUCED squarepusher into drum and bass.
Sqpusher said he was marveled by it so much, he had to
incorporate it into his own style.

µ is a greek letter (to those who didn't know) and it
pronounces mu. so if it's not µ it should be mu, not u at
all. (yes yes i know i'm a smartass)

actually it's not pronounced mu (miew) it's pronouced mi.
Trust me, my girlfriend's Greek and it's pi not pie!

i would have said myy(this is how it has been thought to me)
but the y in english would have messed it up. bad bad
english, not a chance of remotely good phonetics use.
(finnish y being far more 'i'ish than english u)

just fucked... lunatic is a great album btw ;)

Squarephusher started the drill and bass (as it was
classified) phenomenon no question. Silly people.

If you guys want to be really specific as to who started
this style listen to one or two tracks by Reload, they were
certainly on the cusp of drill. Mu-Ziq et el were all on the
cusp of it in the early days. But it was Squarepusher who
officially made the break through, no question.

Hangable Autobulb was the first drill n bass

but... richard said on radio 3s mixing it with rdj in 1995
that luke vibert was his main inspiration for doing it

Thats true when I come to think of it, the Plug series by
Luke Vibert was pre Squarepusher. Certainly not on a par but
not bad all the same. Plug was pretty revolutionary at the
time.
