Please help a poor man...

....and listen to my new track...it will take but 2:04 of
your time.

I pretty much like the way it sounds myself but there are
some things I am planning on changing as I learn how to use
my laptop more.

Before I do that though I would really really like any
comments and suggestions you have.

btw, the track is a mixture of a lot of my influences over
the years so it is quite experimental :D

Futuristic Gastric System under the new alias stickfigure :D

mm. quite experimental for you then - not for me.

not a lot of development or interesting sounds. just seems
to start, go on a bit and then stop. nothing special. not my
thing.

A bit too much "gabba" feelin' for my taste but there are
some nice sounds in there.

Keep up the work.

Thanks for both of your comments :D

qrter: I meant experimental as in I am just developing the
use of sounds that have influenced me in the past, not the
structure of the track.

Bare in mind I have been making music for about a month and
this is only my 5th track. I am sure I will get better the
more I do...lol

well, focusing on creating good sounds is the best
startingpoint, I think.

:)

The wether has been quite good recently :D

As for the cream I am going to the party vefore Creamfields
this year and I will probably go to the festival as well.
:D

qrter: If you have got the time I noticed you never checked
out Distorted High which is here

I would appreciate your views on that, because it is a lot
more experimental than this. :)

It's the front cover of a BOC album or EP or something..I
can't remember which one (Twoism?). So it is possible he
just chose to use the same album cover :)

right, "distorted high" it is then..

nice backward stuff going on in the background - gives it
some more texture. however, there is too little development
imo. it goes on and on and on and now and then you drop the
pitch.

thing that hits me about your stuff is it almost sounds like
you've got about one-third to the half of your channels
muted - like I'm listening to background and ambiance and
there is a lot to be added.

I agree this is more interesting but still you could do so
much more. I think it would be a good idea to drop concerns
about structure and just completely focus on the creation of
your sounds. sounds like you can develop a lot there and
you'll make some nice sounds. (wow a sentence that starts
and ends with the word 'sounds'..!)

The above comment was to Jedi Chris :D

qrter thanks for listening...when I am doing the music I am
doing I just do it because doing it makes me happy. You are
right though...I do actually drop a channel or two because I
always end up thinking it sounds too much like someone else.
Another point is that I have complete tracks in my head but
I haven't worked out yet exactly how to produce the effects
etc. on the laptop. It is funny but sometimes I half human
beatbox tracks onto cassette so I don't forget the ideas and
hopefully some day I will find out how to do them properly.

I also need some decent software because Reason is far too
limited in what it can do. :D

get cubase sx and pluging galore!

and buy a hardware sampler

thats what i'm gonna do

for sound design I would say go for SoundForge (6.0 is the
last version).

its really one of the most easy but still sophisticated
programs to use. you can make pretty good sounds with just
the basic effects included with the program itself.

however, get yourself a wad of plug-ins and just try stuff
out. :)

maybe for the time being it will be easier to create tracks
out of the sounds you find while experimenting designing
sounds. that way you learn how to use the software and later
on can make the tracks as you envisage them.

cubase sx is an excellent suggestion, and can be used for
sound design, but is better for making the tracks, for
structure.

i'd use cubase for midi/audio arrangement and then either
external soundsources samplers etc, and softsynths, it's all
down to personnal prefrence i guess
