From Chiastic Slide to Draft 7.30

Does anybody else feel that some tracks on Drft 7.30 are
like a technological progression (yes, I just made that up)
from Chiastic Slide material...Cause I get that feeling
listening to V-PROC. It sounds like ideas from
Recury/Calbruc have been used again. Also Ae have themselves
claimed that this album contains no generative algorithm
based material...something that was very obvious in LP5,
EP7, Peel Sessions 2 and Confield. Infact I feel that since
Chiastic Slide (which IMHO was their peak), they have
rehashed ideas in one way or another. Uviol is a retake of
Pule. Maphive6.1 mines the same territory as Arch Carrier,
Nuane and Pir...

Don't get me wrong, I love them to hell and back and believe
that they are making stuff miles ahead of most others in the
race, but does anybody else have opinions on their rehashing
of ideas ?

DAMMIT! that was TOTALLY my 666th post.

and i went and fucked it up.

sorry...anyways. all i can say is that i love ae. they could
put out an album of them and their buddies sittin' around
farting and laughing like idiots...i'd buy it and call it
'genius'.

heh...I am not sure I would go that far...but maybe if they
could get their buddies to sing old country music and
decided to remix the shit out of that...hmm, yeah, I think
I'd buy that...

I do hope so 'hanal'...I'd really like to hear more chunky
oraganic stuff from them...sure they can do microbeat...no
one is in any doubt of their capacities here...but lets just
leave the clicks and cuts to Oval, and make more funky stuff
like Recury/Calbruc/Maphive 6.1 and because no one quite
does those like Ae. And I mean nobody. Fatboy Slim included.
;)

nice to meet you too DiaZoHeXagon...

what do you feel about the rehash of ideas ? Do you feel
that they do that ? If so, does that concern you in any way
?

yeah I know what you are saying, but really it doesn't
bother me, Sometimes I hear things in one of their newer
songs and it reminds me of something from their past, but it
only makes me want to go back and listen to their older
stuff...you know I started with confield (my first ae album)
and I hated it at first (now its one of my favorites) then I
when to incunabula and it blew me away...now I collect
anything ae releases. (sorry that last part if off topic)

interesting points... it doesn't really bother me, even if
they are rehashing ideas, and really I haven't noticed it...
but I mostly enjoy autechre because their music is kind of
"outthere", and sounds great... it's not so much about them
constantly doing new things, and never doing the same thing
over... if they ever release an album like amber again, I'd
be exstatic... I just like what they do, cause it's cool,
sounds great, and does have emotion...

plus, it's a damn lot to expect, even from Autechre, that
your favorite artists change their style dramatically with
every release...

offline alnuit on 2003-04-25 05:29 [#00668132]
Points: 1113 Status: Lurker

yeah, thats true...it really doesn't bother me as much as it
scares me. 'Cause I've heard (conflicting) reports that
Draft was gonna be their last album and shit (I wish it was
a BAAD reporter just taking a piss)...and I was wondering if
it was because they felt like they had said all that they
needed to say, and were finally calling it a day. It is in
that context that it worries me...Big Time. Cannot imagine
no new music from Ae ever again.

"and make more funky stuff like Recury/"

Now there's a great song!! I can never get enough of that
one :-) Maybe even my favourite ae-track.

I can sort of see your point. Some tracks definitly sound
like a logical progression from the chiastic slide-sound.
But then some other tracks sound completely different and
remind me more of the confield-sound. I'm finally beginning
to realise though, that draft is really a fantastic album
:-) It took me a while to get into it, but now i'm
really starting to like it!

Some songs from Draft really hit the mark...Xylin Room and
Surripere are phenomenal....V PROC, Theme of.. and 6IE:CR
really hit the mark as well...It is TAPR that remains
elusive.

::turns up TAPR real loud::

Thats what i thought too, since they got all those
journalists together for their last interviews...i really
hope not becuase i feel so lucky to know there is music like
Autechres.

yeah, namcat...I know what you mean...the feel for some odd
reason is just..THERE...hanging in the air..I feel it is all
those organic chunks that hang on threads of melody...those
big organic chunks...I dunno. I am not making sense. But
there is the vague feel of Chiastic there.
