vinyl and cd racking/storage - what do you use?

wondered what people generally use for racking, shelves,
boxes etc. other than the usual DJ cases/cd folders. Can
you recommend any companies that specialise in
practical/space saving units/racks/boxes?

Am about to move and really need to think about how I'm
going to properly store the 1500-odd CDs, and similar number
of vinyl other than the temporary Ikea boxes they're
currently in (bleugh!).

cheers.

Cant help you, but I used to live in Bow - fairfield Road.
Nice place, Bow.

Have you tried Ikea?

Ikea have some ok-ish bookcase/cd case units like the
"Billy" range which I may resort to if nothing else turns
up, but they don't seem to cater for vinyl...

fairfield road - very nice ;-) v.expensive!

Fairfield Rd - expensive? Really? It was quite a while ago
when I lived there - probably 7 or 8 years ago and it was
just full of students then.. Must have gone up in the
world..

Sorry dont mean to hijack your topic.

Just remembered a friend of mine - (sort of a neighbour of
yours in Whitechapel actually) was banging on about these
fantastic cool looking vinyl storage boxes he got from
company called spider. Dont know if that is what you are
looking for, do a google search and see what you think...

cheers - looks like it could be these guys:
http://www.spider-engineering.co.uk however, they now appear
only to specialise in heavy duty equipment cases. will give
them a bell tomorrow just in case.

If you're near an Argos, they've got these CD racks that are
about 400x400mm square (in plan), about 1.5m high, and is
divided down the middle so you can stack CDs on both sides
and it swivels too! You can get nearly 300 CDs on one, and
they take up very little space, I've got a few of 'em...

MFI (or DoItAll or whatever they're called these days) used
to do a nice little set of tall, thin black CD shelves, but
they stopped making them. So I made my own. I ordered a huge
pile of ContiBoard planks from DoItAll, and, with the
cunning employment of a saw, drill, screws, tape-measure,
muscle and one of those things to give you a square edge,
created and assembled 4 shelf units 62cm by 180cm. You can
see two and-a-bit shelves in this rather blurry and low quality pic
where I used my dad's video camera as a stills camera.
