Just opinion, of course, but i hate Ae so much,

i never liked ae until probably 8 or 9 months ago
i dont know. i was just listening to ep7 one night and it
suddenly clicked.
i'm still not the biggest ae fan though, got 2 of their
albums and some mp3s

you hate them?! i don't hate any form of idm, but i don't
like ae too much. i wouldn't say that's a solid opinion cuz
i haven't heard much by them. maybe you have listened to
enough music by them. i used to feel that way about plaid
but then i actually listened to them and now i luv plaid.

NeoExmnist - understand totally what you mean about plaid.

i feel ae have lost their way somewhat and are trying too
hard now. its happening with gescom too. imho

no, if you dont like autechre, the only reason can be is
that you are not listening fully to them - give them a few
more listens and you will fall in love with their genious

i don't hate ae. i just don't get the later stuff as much
as the early stuff and because partly of laziness on my part
i can't be arsed to put the time in to get it because i'm
not sure its going to be worth it.

i still have heaps of respect for them.

i hated ae because i had such high expectations of them, and
when i got a few albums i was very disappointed. but the
people here are right, it is the kind of music that takes
time to grow on you.....its not as repetetive as i thought
on first listen, its just a load of subtle changes....

on the other hand, people told me i would get into
squarepusher and i still think he is total shit, so i
respect your opinion if say you will never like ae....

"If you hate Ae, you hate yourself"

> lo!! whatever... ^^;
everyone has its own taste, can't you understand that? : )

i like Ae. but in NO WAY i would say you have to like Ae!
don't diktat your own tastes to other people pretending you
are right and they are wrong if they don't like what you
like, this is just stupid and egoistic...

now - if you hate Ae, have you heard their previous stuff,
like Amber or Anti EP?
it's quite very different from their later stuff.

offline artemis from Ghent (Belgium) on 2003-04-24 06:53 [#00666459]

Yeah, i have bought Amber on vynil when it cames out in '94,
so i have a lot of experience in this kind of music. A great
record bye the way, but i don't fall in love with their
later works.

aah jesus JAroen.. those kind of remarks really irritate the
fucking hell out of me - and not because its about ae - I
don't care who its about, I just hate that.
it sounds so close-minded and dumb. I always hoped that
within the so-called IDM-genre people wouldn't talk shit
like that - but, alas.

I had also bought Basscad in the early '90. it was releases
on TVT, you can find also fine remixes on it. Also a great
release! Was it me who hates AE? I gonna fall in love for
them.

I've stopped trying to like ae and I still don't like their
newer stuff. Only thier first 2 or 3 releases did anything
for me. Albums like Confield make me want to go on a
killing spree. If someone else wants to like I can't argue,
but I think I would rather listen to a Britney Spears record
than Confield.

underappreciated.

I'm selling my Confield CD for $5 + postage. Shipping to USA
only, please. email me if interested.

B3cause, steeeeeewpid, tracks such as those in ep7 are the
fucking culmination of musical evolution as
transmitted by culture.

As for comparing the sound of autechre to a dishwasher,
maybe it's a little bit accurate with something like grantz
graf, but ep7 is an insanely finely tuned human craft. Sound
would never just form that way by chance. You don't have
very good mental ability to distinguish in my opinion if you
think ep7 is like the sound of a dishwasher.

I could understand how some may think of the newer AE work
as more technique than music. But on headphones at a
healthy volume you can hear a lot of subtle melodious bits
that aren't immediately discernable over speakers. Draft
7.30 keeps getting better with each new listen. There's a
lot more going on there than just 'noise'.

I bought tri repeate in 2000. that's all I've heard of
theirs. It was pretty brutal. I didn't like it. There wasn't
much variety or personality, just blank. I might like em if
there was melodic stuff along with the other stuff. Ying and
Yang.
