Hello, I'm writing a thesis about Aphex Twin and the musical context. Are there some Afx fans who would like to answer some questions about this topic? It would help me a lot! Thanks...

Here we go, it's quite a list. thanks for the coorperation!!
Question list:
1. Do you think growing up in Cornwall effected Aphex Twins music? Would the music have been different if the had grown up in the big city?
2. What music do you think Richard D. James listens to? 3. Do you think he somehow uses the music he likes in his own productions? And which artists you think are important for his music?
4. How do links with music (such as the music of John Cage, Stockhausen Phillip Glass, ...) influence your perception of Aphex Twin? Do you take his music more, equally or less serious as without such knowledge?
5. What do you think about Aphex Twin in comparison to other Warp artists? Does Aphex Tin has more influence on the so-called Intelligent Dance Music than the other Warp artists?
6. How big is his influence on today’s electronic music? Or do you believe that the influence of James’ music is overestimated?
7. What could be the motivation behind James’ melination to create confusion about his personality and his music?
8. Do you think Aphex Twin gets more respect as a result of these confusions?

Those are pretty good questions!
1. Probably 2. His own, his friend's stuff. Not a lot else? 3. Maybe influenced by stuff like >[], as evident on Druqks.
4. I guess I respect him more for it and I take his stuff more seriously.
5. I think he'll always be seen as the Daddy of IDM and he's got more clout than anyone (with probably only AE coming close).
6. I think it's far more than most people think. I think Madonna has been ripping him off for about 10 years
7. He's a mischevous bastard! 8. I'd say yes and no.

1. Do you think growing up in Cornwall effected Aphex Twins
music? Would the music have been different if the had grown
up in the big city? WE ARE WE AND OUR CIRCUNMSTANCES (SO YES IT AFFECTED HIM)
2. What music do you think Richard D. James listens to? ACID, AND LOTS OF DIFERENT STYLES I GUESS
3. Do you think he somehow uses the music he likes in his own productions? And which artists you think are important for his music? NO IDEA
4. How do links with music (such as the music of John Cage,
Stockhausen Phillip Glass, ...) influence your perception of
Aphex Twin? Do you take his music more, equally or less serious as without such knowledge? IT GIVES ME MORE PERSPECTIVE TO SEE THAT HE HASNT INVENTED ANYTHING BUT YET HE HAS IMPROVED THEM
5. What do you think about Aphex Twin in comparison to other
Warp artists? Does Aphex Tin has more influence on the so-called Intelligent Dance Music than the other Warp artists? HE IS THE KING (AUTECHRE ARE CLOSE THOUGH)
6. How big is his influence on today’s electronic music? Or
do you believe that the influence of James’ music is overestimated? HIS DISCOGRAPHY IS ESSENTIAL IN MUSIC HISTORY
7. What could be the motivation behind James’ melination to
create confusion about his personality and his music? HE LIKES FUCKING THE SISTEM
8. Do you think Aphex Twin gets more respect as a result of
these confusions? NO, HE GETS RESPECT COS HE HAS TOUCHED EVERY STYLE IN MUSIC AND IN ALL OF THEM HE WAS THE BEST

I DONT KNOW FOR SURE, BUT I THINK THAT YOUR ENVIRONMENT DEFINITELY EFFECTS YOUR PERSONALITY AND TASTE...NACMAT SAID IT ALL. HE DOES HAVE SONGS NAMED AFTER CORNWALL AND REDRUTH...SO YEAH IM GUESSING AND ANYWAYS
What music do you think Richard D. James listens to?
THERE WAS A THING ON THE OLD APHEXTWIN.NU SITE ABOUT WHAT HE LISTENS TO (IM GUESSING ITS PRETTY OLD THOUGH) BUT SQUAREPUSHER AND OVUCA, DONT REMEMBER EXACTLY
Do you think he somehow uses the music he likes in his own productions? And which artists you think are important for his music
WHAT DO YOU MEAN USES? LIKE SAMPLES OR JUST GETS INSPIRATION?
How do links with music (such as the music of John Cage,
Stockhausen Phillip Glass, ...) influence your perception of
Aphex Twin? Do you take his music more, equally or less serious as without such knowledge?
I AGREE WITH NACMAT (WITH THE IMPROVEMENT COMMENT)
What do you think about Aphex Twin in comparison to other
Warp artists? Does Aphex TWin haVE more influence on the so-called Intelligent Dance Music than the other Warp artists?
IM NOT REALLY SURE, BUT I DO KNOW THAT APHEX TWIN SEEMS TO BE THE GATEWAY DRUG INTO "IDM"
How big is his influence on today’s electronic music? Or do you believe that the influence of James’ music is
overestimated?
PERSONALLY WITH ALBUMS LIKE ICBYD AND THE RDJ ALBUM, I THINK HE PAVED THE WAY FOR THE DIRECTION OF IDM MUSIC (AGAIN WITH IMPROVEMENT OF IT) IF THAT MAKES SENSE...
What could be the motivation behind James’ melination to
create confusion about his personality and his music?
HE LIKES MESSING WITH US I GUESS. OR PERHAPS ITS A MARKETING SCAM..WHO KNOWS. WHY DO YOU LIKE MESSING WITH PEOPLE (ASSUMING YOU MESS WITH PEOPLE)
Do you think Aphex Twin gets more respect as a result of
these confusions?
I THINK IT JUST ADDS TO THE MYSTIC OF HIS PERSONA, I THIN

I THINK WHAT HE DOES WITH THE MUSIC IS WHAT GIVES HIM THE RESPECT HE DESERVES, AND ALSO THE FACT THAT HE DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK (ALTHOUGH WITH TITLES LIKE 26 MIXES FOR CASH, IT MAKES ONE WONDER...)

I can't believe this because he puts his whole life in his music. And I think with titles like "26 remixes for cash" he's just pulling everyone's leg. He already declared he'd never take the piss of his own music...

1. Yes, there's not much "to do" in Cornwall as a kid apart unless you like surfing or walking. Music might of been an "escape" for him.
2. I imagine he listens to all sorts- his genre changes suggest he isn't set in one style.
3. Perhaps when he was younger he was influenced more by contemporary artists (Mike Dred etc.), nowadays I'd say he looks more to classical minimalists like satie and cage.
4. More, with that knowledge.
5. More influence.
6. I'd say with the possible exception of BoC he is the most influential person in electronica.
7. melination? I'm reading that as inclination or predilection...
Fun- to ause himself and his friends. To make interviews less boring for himself. To perpetuate the myths surrounding him and help boost sales in a conceptual artist kind of way.
8. He gets more press, certianly...

1. Do you think growing up in Cornwall effected Aphex Twins
music? Would the music have been different if the had grown
up in the big city? Yes. I grew up in redruth, cornwall at the same time and was the year below him at school and I can say I feel that his early music was totally in tune with that kind of upbringing and the rather shitty surroundings of that area of cornwall. I think you can tell that his music changed when he moved to London the city influences definitely enabled him to branch out musically.
(Btw, its “affected” not “effected”)
2. What music do you think Richard D. James listens to? His own music. And squarepusher. I know he used to listen to baby ford, fingers and all the early acid stuff back in the late 80s. I suspect a lot of the stuff he listens to now won’t be stuff many people will have heard, mainly unreleased stuff by himself, his mates and artists he knows.
3. Do you think he somehow uses the music he likes in his own productions? And which artists you think are important for his music? All artists draw their influences from somewhere, so yes, I’m sure he would use the music he likes to influence the music he produces.
Some of the important artists would be; john cage, phillip glass, gorecki, steve reich, squarepusher, 808 state, baby ford, fingers, phuture, luke vibert,
4. How do links with music (such as the music of John Cage,
Stockhausen Phillip Glass, ...) influence your perception of
Aphex Twin? Do you take his music more, equally or less serious as without such knowledge? They don’t influence my perception of Aphex. The fact that he cites them as influences, helps me appreciate what they bring to his music. Equally as seriously.
5. What do you think about Aphex Twin in comparison to other
Warp artists? Does Aphex Tin has more influence on the so-called Intelligent Dance Music than the other Warp artists? He is unlike all other warp artists other than squarepusher and BoC. Warp have moved in a much more hip hop and beats o
