well its true man. I cant listen to it as much these days.
Sure i still love what i own, but everything is verging on
same now. As for everyone thinking aphex twin is flawless,
come on man. Almost all of his albums have like, 30%
incomprehensible nonsense on them. Wind tunnels on drukqs?
Headache mania. Not that im saying he's shit, cause the
songs i like are just awesome. You cant beat a real song
with words. Something you can come back to.

That strange land where Electronic and Rock meet is the
place to be these days.

At least, that's why I'm listening to. *nods*

I thought I was the only one here who thought that. He's a
genius, about 15% of his stuff I love, the rest is
inpenetrable.

maybe stop thinking in terms of e-music and not e-music? to
me it's just music, great artists in so many genres.
there's always some great stuff coming by. i just think in
terms of artist doing good things.

aphextriplet you are misled and misinformed; there is PLENTY
of good and challenging electronic music still coming out,
and i highly doubt your cannon of existing electronic music
is complete. i know mine's not!

theres way too much electronic music out there for it to get
old or start to stink. you need to look harder buddy. the
good stuff is there.

I agree, there's about 10 electronic cds I could name off
the top of my head that've came out this year, that are
mindblowing.

you can't beat a good song with words!? what!?? music doesnt
need to have "words".. though I think most people would call
them LYRICS.. for it to be good.. or "something you can come
back to" what a rediculous broadstroke.. let's forget about
the many "wordless" pieces by chopin, mozart, miles davis,
aphex twin etc etc etc.. because they fail to provide the
insight dashboard confessional does about breakups

what a stupid thing to say..

offline theo himself from +- on 2003-04-21 19:15 [#00662080]

and by the way, electronic music is utterly limitless.. it's
not restricted to the patterns and trends of the late
nineties etc.. how can one with access to confield make such
a statement?? the future is great for this music.. this is
where to be

I do agree with what you said about artists who adopt
electronic techniques/ology to advance their music should be
applauded

u2, radiohead, madonna, flaming lips (artists that
previously - save for madonna - were limited by traditional
rock of whatever genre from which they derived)

radiohead and the flaming lips are both successful in that
regard (in my opinion). achtung baby may be my favorite rock
album of all time, and part of the reason for that is the
dark atmosphere created by the shades of early nineties euro
electronica used. after that point i would say U2 were less
successful. discotheque anyone?
madonna, well, she keeps trying to be bjork, and her music
falls flat on its face.
speaking of which, bjork does an excellent job with
electronic music. i'd say shes one of the few artists in
"semi mainstream" music that could be considered "idm". sort
of.

and anyone who owns SAW vol2 should never, EVER make a
statement like "electronic music has limits." because you
can easily lose yourself in that album for an eternity.
atleast i can.

I bought it at the end of last year upon many many
recommendations by people here at Xlt.

Some good reasons for buying it:

1. It's 2CDs of new (to you) Aphex music
2. It's the best music to put on when you're
at the computer, I mean the best.
3. It's also brilliant for rainy days, sleeping
troubles and reading books by.
4. And, best of all, it's just great music.

the history of electronic music goes back quite aways,
too... especially if you enjoy the experimental stuff.
"silver apples of the moon" could fit nicely on a mix with
current autechre (which isn't to say it sounds like
autechre). variety is the key, though. there certainly
isn't any reason to limit oneself to so-called electronic
music.

Freejazz is the new IDM. Meaning that it's difficult and you
can look cool listening to it and wear your special IDM
eyeglasses and also jazz is often associated with negroes so
it is "hip".
