extinction of interesting topics?

where oh where are the topics that are the cause for such
nice debates?
And where did the nacmat-type topics go? I find that I have
to look really hard to find something worth replying too.

debates mean disagreements, disagreements mean bans!

:-)

use the search function, all the best topics are always
burried

- lol tab :P
- nacmat, I love your "top5/favorite" topics, only you can
make 'em fun.
- titsworth, I know there's the older ones that are good,
but I don't like covering old ground, we need new impulses

the way i see it people here rarely ever cover new ground.
it's just the same topics done not as well. look at the "idm
influence in other music" topic on the front page. i even
linked a better discussion of the exact same topic from 2
weeks before and people still continued to take stabs in the
dark at the topic (again, covered in full just a few days
before). so i don't believe the "new impulses" explanation
myself. it seems whenever people bring up something that
really is new almost no one replies cos they don't know what
to say.

I notice this aswell, I see so many topics that I've already
responded to in the past in some other form and it just
seems a little redundant to respond again

i find it really tempting to chime in when someone says
something that is inaccurate (eg: charlie clouser remixed
"judith" by APC.. nyet, it was danny lohner and joshua
eustis) or when someone wants advice, but in the end it's
just so pointless and wasteful of my time. someone will just
ask again later.

yeah its really difficult to look for a topic, then again I
dont even know how to use the "favorites" I thought I did
and once I was gonna use it I was confoooosed

ok so forget the new ground Tits, just look at the freshest
topics atm.
I'm sure you'll agree that topics like "sex with an album",
"I've been with my g/f","PAIN","red wine","behold a pale
horse" (etc. etc. the list goes on)
aren't exactly the greatest and most inspiring topics of
late

even this topic is overdone

agreed; it rehashes this topic and plenty of
others.

What about the Zelda topic? That's been going strong for
some months now. A serious exploration of mechanics, games
as fine art, and Nintendo politics.

And of course certain topics are going to pop up again; we
get a deluge of inquisitive new members every day not
satisfied with an erratic search engine or prissy
authorities. They're testing the water, trying to acclimate
themselves to the licentious ant farm that is xltronic. If
you want to enrich the soil here, go ahead and do so - I
could use some fresh brain fodder. Stop sniffing around for
an interesting topic to latch on to and create one yourself.

i do. click "CREATED BY" to sort topics by
author. 30700-31055 is all me baby. notice how many topics i
made that were genuinely new or different. now notice how
few replies the topic got. like a lot of people, i've
steered away from raising new discussions because people
just don't care.

to clarify, i didn't say in this thread that all the topics
that stay active are boring. i participate in some of them,
i think they're good discussions. it's just that most of
them are recycled old topics. if people want to know
something they should use the search function here or even
google (or all music guide) before creating a new thread
about it. people who've been here longer than a day should
know how to resurrect old discussions instead of posting
new, identical topics.

It's a complete mystery to me why some topics become popular
and some die unnoticed. It has fairly little to do with the
first post i think. There can 10 identical topics about an
autechre-track that get almost no response... and then
suddenly the 11th similar topic sparks a long and
interesting discussion.

It's a matter of luck i think... which people are online and
what they have to say, and how they respond to eachother.

But if you're only looking at the subjects of new topics...
i really don't think they have been getting any worse (or
any better) lately.
