No I take that back - Science, Art and Ritual by Bedouin Ascent is the first thing you should buy RIGHT NOW. Listen to it today and pretend the whole of the last ten years never happened to you...!

Shit, my guitar/indie/pop check-it-out list is getting long.
Curiously, my electronic list is blank.

'yoshimi battles the pink robots' is my favourite non-idm album now. the album as a whole as well as particular songs are amazing.
i'll drop you a line on slsk if you want

idm seems to be trapped in its own attempt to be 'different', though it might be a bit early to say that

I've been thinking that for a while... someone like Snares or Enduser comes along with a technical innovation or a new sound and it's almost passe before the disk ships.
Maybe it's time to give it a rest and listen to something else until something genuinely fresh happens... I say that for artists as well as listeners.

You can't really go wrong with either band, most of their albums are very good. You'll descend into airplane glue-sniffing madness the further you go into the back catalogue.
Personal favorites: The Soft Bulletin, Deserter's Songs.

flaming lips: the soft bulletin (their best album, by far), zaireeka (if you can find stereo mixes online), transmissions from the satellite heart

two weeks ago i listened to the full zaireeka thingy in four stereos - it was amazing
i'd say that 'yoshimi..' is their best one, but i see that i have to give the soft bulletin another chance
btw, my avatar is seasonal only in spring :)

see, i heard soft bulletin first... that was the first one i bought of theirs, so when i hear yoshimi i feel like "yeah, i heard this already" which is the only one i feel like that about. all the rest i feel are pretty different form one another.

Hey, so there are Zaireeka stereo mixes? Is there some way to identify them like a keyword? If I had to do the mixdown myself I think I'd just buy the CDs instead of working from MP3 sources...
Cheffe - how'd the four stereos get synchronized? Or is it the kind of music that allows for some leeway in sync?

there is a pretty good mixdown flying around on slsk, just do a search on zaireeka. in fact it's pretty hard to find the unmixed album. everything is on 192k
i burnt the 4 cds and made the players pause at 0:00. after a countdown we hit play simultanously. unfortunately different players seem to have a slightly varying speed so we had to fix this a couple of times. 'twas in a room with the 4 stereos in every corner and we got pretty scared when in one track the scream of a girl seemed to be floating around in the room. besides that i didnt dig the music too much, but it was cool trying it out
