i haven't heard anyone talk about him on here yet, but is anyone a fan of clint's music and his soundtracks for pi and requiem for a dream?
..those movies are great, as well, so go watch them if you haven't yet.

i think he's really good. it's almost like he's blurring the line between classical and electronic music, which makes perfect sense to me.

i don't have any of his albums, yet. i have downloaded some songs, but i haven't found anywhere i can buy one of his full cds besides his website, which can be found here www.clintatthecontrols.com
i would check out the pi and requiem for a dream (fucking amazing) soundtrack,
he's also in a band called, "Pop will eat itself" which i really haven't heard much of it, so i can't really comment on it.

what are they like? i read somewhere that he was the "frontman" for the band, so i guess that mean that they are an electronic band mainly?..

i used to really enjoy this soundtrack... but then i had to sit through this melodramatic-tableau-play in my drama class which used it... and it completely ruined it for me... although this does help me un-trip-out when i am forced to watch requiem for a dream while high... (my friends keep watching it this way... i have no fucking idea why, it just scares the crap out of me)

can anyone suggest any artists similar to clint mansell's style?.. i don't mean exactly like him, but who are some good musicians that incorporate electronics, but also use traditional instruments and could almost be considered classical music at times? i do enjoy mechanical, glitch-y, abrasive electronic music a lot, but sometimes would like to hear something a little more melodic and soothing to listen to in bed.
some that i can think of: aphex twin.. um.. tell me some more..

Venetian Snares latest full-length uses a lot of strings and what not... and if you haven't heard any snares already... well you bloody well should...
other than that... everyone should check out twine: they're an electronic duo out of the states on the abstract glitch end of things, a lot of intereseting vocal samples, thick droney ambiance, and quite a few tracks utilize conventional instruments (harpsichords, guitars, pianos, etc.) in interesting ways... "Recorder" was one of my favourite releases of 2002, and "circulation" is also well worth checking out

as for soothing (which Venetian Snares is not) i'd recommend you check out the releases on City-Centre-Offices. My all time favourite relaxing IDM release is Arovane's Tides... i cannot heap enough praise on this album, it's fuckin amazin...
other than that (and also on CCO) check out Denzel & Huhn- Time is a Good Thing Morgan Caney& Kamal Joorey- Magic Radios Dictaphone-M.Addiction etc. 2002 was a really good year for CCO, and we can expect more goodness this year from Xela (yes, he should have another album out later this year, according to boomkat), and hopefully Arovane...

Actually, he was the guitarist and one of the vocalists in Pop Will Eat Itself. I wouldn't doubt that he might have done some keyboard work here and there though. They were pretty concerned with the "group" idea, so I doubt Clint ever thought of himself as the frontman. They would credit all the songs as written by "Vestan Pance."
I love PWEI, they are one of my favorite bands. Shame they're not together anymore. Slowly been collecting their albums over time, but it's been incredibly hard due to the fact that they're all out of print except for the newly reissued "Box Frenzy" and "Now For A Feast" records.
Ich Bin Ein Auslander is on their last album "Dos Dedos Mis Amigos," and that album is definitely their darkest. It's pretty industrial, but it has it's own feel to it. It's great.
Their other albums are hard to describe. Somewhere inbetween electro/hip hop, rock, techno/idustrial and weird alien-like pop.
I would just look around soulseek for some stuff to get a better idea, if you were at all curious about them.
As for stuff that is a bit similar to Clint's soundtrack work, Pan American is pretty good. I'd check out his album "The River Made No Sound" -- it's pretty nice to sleep to.

i think the lyrics go something like this:
"listen to the victim/abused by the system/the basis is racist/you know that we must face this/ it can't happen here/take a look around at the cities and the towns..." etc... it's pretty funny, cuz his delivery is this meat beat/nitzer ebb type industrial vocals.
