Michael Moore rocks. He tells it like it is. I wouldn't be surprised if he "disappeared" mysteriously, because the powers at be are at risk from something he exposes. The TRUTH. please discuss

I think Bowling For Columbine was an important film that every American should consider seeing ust to get a different point of view. But that's as far as I'd go. Michael Moore is a pushy, idealistic fat man who I wouldn't want to see on a regular basis. He's no different than people who knock on your door Sunday morning trying to sell you Jesus. Plus anti-war protestors make me want to slaughter thousands of Iraqi children with an AK-47, and I'm not even gung ho for the war. It's just because anti-war protestors are so annoying that I want to take a position opposite them out of spite.

I'm sure Morrissey would nod his quiff in agreement at your concise, and sensitive point of view. Meat is Murder, Iraqi slaughtering is democracy apparently.

It's a great movie, but Moore has been known to play with the facts a little and push the limits of what constitutes a ''documentary''.

Yeh - much as I agree with the gist of his politics he is not the most honest documentor or journalist or whatever you wanna call him.
For one thing he made Canada look like it consisted of a few barrooms full of vaguely socialist drunks. When he interviewed that old slapper I wanted to scream.
WE ARE NOT ALL TOOTHLESS LAZY DRUNKS WHO FORGET TO LOCK OUR DOORS MISTER MOORE
Okay, we're all drunks. But anyway.
And the Charlton Heston ambush scene was mindless, cruel and shameless. Heston is so old and cloudy he can hardly hold his own in a conversation, let alone a debate.
Other parts of the movie were insightful, like just about everything they had to say about Columbine, the culture of violence, that creepy interview with the Nichols brother... that motherfucker was one scary ignorant human being.
I guess Moore's heart's in the right place but that doesn't excuse his shoddy ethics.

qrter: SO DO YOU
mc 303: Good for Morrissey. I just listen to his music. I don't necessarily agree with all his political and social views. However, he has been quoted as saying he's in support of the war in Iraq. Something along the lines of Saddam is a tyrant who should've been removed long ago.

What are you talking about? He's a spokesman for IRA and debating for something. He needs to able to defend what he stands for. If he can't, well, then he should consider changing opinion to something he can motivate.
That goes for all people, it's no different if you're old. Seriously, you might aswell say "it's OK to believe anything, even if you don't know why you believe it".

What you say is true, but the scene still left a bad taste in my mouth. Moore chose a pretty easy target, one that couldn't defend himself at all. Not noble.
I also don't like the way he leveraged that child's death. I don't like it when the conservatives pull a "pleeease won't someone think of the children" routine to support the war on drugs or censorship of the internet... what the fuck is so special about children? I don't like them very much.

He shouldn't be promoting something he can't defend. I guess we experienced that scene differently. I don't believe in violence...

I'm not a huge fan of guns either. But one of Moore's point with the documentary is that people kill people, not guns.
Having some restrictions (in weapons/bullets) might improve the situation, and should atleast be tried...

On a related note, my business partner and I are going to a shooting range this month for lessons on handguns and some target practice. I surprised the heck out of him by being into it... he thinks I'm some kind of politically correct leftwinger. What I am is non-dogmatic. I refuse to align myself, though I will shift my weight a bit to the left if things lean too far right.
