I have thought long about this topic before I decided to
post it, but I came to the conclusion that since these are
allegedly "not" the finished tracks, that this topic would
be ok. I dont want to piss any of the people off who hate
DL'ng albums.

Well, Well, Well....What does everyone think. Like I have
posted in other threads, I think this whole " unmastered and
not the final tracks" stuff is all BS, but I suppose thats
besides my point here. This album seems to be Radiohead in
top form. From the MP3's I have downloaded, there maybe 10%
left to snip and tuck, but otherwise they sound great. Thom
seems to be writing songs that are a bit more vocal, or they
just decided to turn the amps down to 9 instead of 10...I
like almost every song on here...Sit Down stand up,
Backdrifting, Sail to the moon, gloaming, where I
end...,etc.
I hope that discussing these tracks doesnt make too many
people mad, I just know ALOT of us out here have em, and
well, dammit i hate NOT talking about em...=)

Cheers!!

as far as them being unmastered and unfinished goes: it's
true, and you can hear it. you can say it's bs all you want,
but they are obviously not finished. like i said before:
compression, eq, cross fades, bring out the fullness. and i
agree, i have been obsessed with these songs since i heard
em... i cant get enough. it's definitely their best album,
to me. it's everything i could ask of them musically. i
think they are entering their peak form. hope it lasts 20
more years.

there have been a ton of topics as of late on this, but,
i'll humor you.
i love every song on this album besides Punch Up at a
Wedding which i hate. i'm not sure why either, it just rubs
me the wrong way.
as they are unfinished i've decided to delete all the mp3's
from my hard drive. just something to do to boost the fun on
june 10th.

i liked punch up, not one of my favs.... the tarantino 70's
funk vibe is kinda a nice surprise, though.

sounds like porn music when it comes in. i really don't know
why i hate it so much, just seems like the crappiest lyrics
on an album of good writing.

im sure we can all agree "we suck young blood" is pure
satyrical genious.

Points: 4428 Status: Addict

i don't know about genious. its good, not a personal
favorite.
i love where i end and you begin though. the groove near the
end with thom repeating the "no more lies" line is amazing.
and the gloaming is awesome as well.

see, im a bit more skeptical towards the electronic stuff on
this album than i was on kid a and amnesiac. it seems to fit
in with the other material a little less. hopefully that
might be different on the final cut.

"it seems to fit
in with the other material a little less."
that is most likely because you're listening to the
UNmastered version.

i'm sure tibbar realises that. i think the electronic stuff
fits fine (in the tracklist) and i'm sure it will flow
perfectly when the album is finished and released.

no, i mean CONTENT wise. it seems like the majority of it
has a more tamed electronic vibe, and then there's
backdrifts and gloaming. plus, i think their electronics are
kinda dinky on this album, compared to like, pulk/pull
revolving doors.

a matter of taste, i suppose... still, his voice is amazing
on both songs.

i like these threads.
Even though i'll definitly wait until it's released before i
listen to the tracks.

I like reading people's description of them. Slowly there
forms an image in my head of what the album sounds like...
ofcourse when í'll hear it eventually it'll be nothing like
i imagined.. but still it is fun to slowly feel the
anticipation grow. I did the same with amnesiac, and when
that one was finally released well... that day was one of
the best days of my life :-p

well, since you enjoy it so much, here's my brief
stereotypical overview:

1) 2+2=5: starts out very accapella-ish. soft and pretty,
gets NASSSTY ROCKIN though. very excited vocals at the end
(a la national anthem live)
2) sit down, stand up: once again awesome vocals. builds up
slowly and very mthodiclly. sexy, primitive. explodes into a
tortoise-esque barage of blips and bops.
3) sail to the moon: awesome piano-based track. even the
lyrics seem to very subtly hint at the content of pyramid
song. bittersweet.
4) backdrifts: this needs to grow on me more.
5) go to sleep: here's some ok computer in your ear. very
nice guitar work here. excellent band performance, overall.
6) where i end and you begin: needs to grow on me.
7) we suck young blood: creepy vampire dirge type jazz/piano
track. scary hand claps and thom hitting WEIRD notes with
his vox. AWESOME.
8) the gloaming: needs to grow on me.
9) there there: the first single. you can imagine. this
album's optimistic.
10) i will: like spinning plates reversed. literally. very
beautiful.
11) punch up at a wedding: tarantino lounge funk. got a nice
strut to it.
12) myxomatosis: needs to grow on me.
13) scatterbrain: nice song.... kinda short.
14) a wolf at the door: AWESOME. he sing-talks in a "normal"
voice. chorus is kinda ok computer-ish (no alarms..). kinda
angry sounding. good drums. nice shuffle.

"here's my brief stereotypical overview:"

thanks, that was great. I can almost picture it!

"3) sail to the moon: awesome piano-based track. even the
lyrics seem to very subtly hint at the content of pyramid

"

boy does this sound good! Pyramid song is one of my
favourites. The first time i saw that video on tv (also the
first time i heard the song)... i just choked up... so
beautiful.

And later when i had the album suddenly the lyrics also
struck me. I've always been so afraid of death... and then
suddenly i heard him sing: "all my lovers were there with me
... there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt." I had
already figured out this song was about death... but that
line... it just felt so comforting at that moment :-)
Awesome song.

sail to the moon isn't really anything like pyramid song,
outside of being piano based.

it reminds me of it, and so it links itself to it by virtue
of its subtle thematic tie.
would "starlight prom slowdance song" have been a better
description?

best up until this diamond in the rough came to my

I can't wait to get it in CD quality sound, but it's not
like you can't judge the album now. It's very, very, very
good, great even. And it'll improve marginally when it
finally comes out, that's good. Radiohead will go down in
history as one of the best bands ever to grace this horrid
rotating sphere of dirt and water.

"I find it weird that the whole amnesiac album hardly
ever gets mentioned in here
"

well i think it's their best album.
Took along time to grow on me though. At first it sounded
totally incoherent... just a bunch of songs thrown together
(it seemed to confirm all the rumours that this were just
Kid A-leftovers).

But today i think it flows like no other album before it :-)
All these songs definitely belong together... it's like some
sort of weird haunting dream.

Knives Out/Morning Bell AMNESIAC... those two songs are the
core of the album for me... they both sound so intense and
so desperate.

But lots of intruiging things about this album though...
like pyramid song and pulk/pull having exactly the same
ending... the fact that morning bell was also on Kid A...
that strange (but beautiful) intermezzo Hunting Bears... it
keeps puzzling me, and the mystery never becomes any
smaller. One of the very few Perfect Albums out there i
think.

amnesiac would have been amazing if they had removed three
of the worst tracks they've ever done from it (pulk/pull,
hunting bears, and morning bell/amnesiac). if they had
inserted almost any of the bsides (worrywort, cuttooth and
kinetic would have been nice) in those spots and pumped up i
might be wrong to its live fury, i would love that album.

It's like my view is the complete opposite of your
view ;-)

"the worst tracks they've ever done from it (pulk/pull,
hunting bears, and morning bell/amnesiac).
"

morning bell/amnesiac is more like one of the (if not
theabout it? It's one of the most emotional-sounding
radiohead-tracks ever.

"any of the bsides (worrywort, cuttooth and kinetic would
have been nice)
"

and see, there you excluded my favourite of the amnesiac
b-sides... "fog"! If any of the b-sides should have been on
the album (altough i think they were wise not to add any
more songs) it should have been fog.

:-p

I love the new Radiohead album and can't even imagine how
much better it will sound when mastered.

My favorites are:

"Sail To The Moon" & "Wolf at the Door"

I FUCKING LOVE "Wolf At The Door" I played that on repeat
100 times yesterday.

ZAPHOD___
I hate "Punch Drunk Wedding" Or whatever the fuck it's
called too. The lyrics are annoying and musicly that song
lacks compared to everything else.

oh man, I started thos topic and ONLY NOW, being here at
work, can I join in on it...

I seem to agree with alot of you on which tracks are
standout...The Gloaming seems to be my favorite of all, I
cannot stop listening to it. Thoms voice is so powerful and
beautiful.

The last minute of Sit Down stand up also gives me
chills...I would easily give this album 4 maybe 4 and a half
stars.
Its growing on me daily.
Does anyone think there will be songs that werent leaked on
the Official release?...

I've loved every Radiohead from The Bends through Amnesiac
but i don't like this new one so far. The production is
horrible, but I'm praying the final versions will change my
mind. The live versions are a zillion times better than
these mp3s. Wtf happened to Wolf At The Door? It was my
favorite song but now its crap, the live version was one of
the most dramatic songs Radiohead has ever done. Now it has
cheesy instrumentation and no emotion.

I don't know about that. Like, '2 + 2...' sounds complete,
but 'Sit Down...' doesn't, when it goes into that piano
bridge and he's just mumbling, it's like a rough guideline.
And 'Mixamytosis' (gonna have to learn to spell that one),
depsite being one of my favourites is clearly not finished
as his vocals become completely indistinguishable towards
the end. Love that fucking "tongue-tied" part though.
