draft 7:30 in oor

I don't know why i keep reading OOR-magazine (a dutch
magazine that seems to get be getting worse and worse with
each issue)... but i flipped through the latest issue, and
noticed a Draft 7:30-review.

Usually all idm-artists (aphex twin, squarepusher, plaid,
other autechre) are placed in the "dance" category, but i
noticed they had placed Draft 7:30 in the "avant garde"
category. I pondered that fact for a while, and decided it's
probably alot more fitting than Dance :-)

But anyway, positive review. The guy starts by complaining
about the fact he had to review a cassettetape instead of a
cd, then goes on to say how he was planning to write a
negative review (because he apparantly didn't like
confield), but by the time the tape was over he was
convinced by the album. "somehow autechre have done it
again, every click, swoosh and other little sound is at
exactly the right place. And the music quickly found
a way into my brain where it will remain until long after
this cassette is broken"

I hate Oor.

anyway, they placed the confield review in the avant-garde
section too.

yeah i saw it in the stores today :-) The most recent one.

Indeed i guess this means draft 7:30 might also already be
out in holland? Plato has a tendency of selling records that
are released on a monday, already on friday.

to notice such details ;-)

i guess you are like me :-p We both don't like oor, but
we're both still reading it ;-)

Well atleast i don't waste my money on it anymore. I browse
it in the store, and if there's something really interesting
i read it in the library.

lol! triphop ;-)

Well what do you expect? It's free record shop. Today i
wanted to buy 2 cd's there (so they could have really made
some big money from me ;-), but when i gave the 2 empty
boxes to the guy behind the counter, he couldn't find the cd
for one of them! You'd think in a RECORD store they'd
atleast have their cd's organised well enough. But he just
searched for awhile and in the end just said: "uh i can't
find this one." So i ended up only getting underworld).

underworld?? did you give it a listen before buying it?
not impressive...its one of those records you can put on
while in room with people that are bothered with idm :)

no, i'm now listening to it for the first time. But i
really liked that Two Months Off-single. I wanted to
have that one anyway, no matter what.

And actually i think it's pretty good. Alot simpler than
idm, but still a good listen. I'm enjoying it. It sounds
like a live-show. Underworld are really good in building
tension towards a really big climax.

Discovering TwoMonthsOff is here in an extended 9 minute
version was a nice surprise too :-)

my brother works at the Plato in The Hague.

LOTS of cd's go missing, simply because the people who work
there put them back wrong. same with cd-cases, although
thats mostly customers.

he showed me the huge amount of cd's without cases in the
back. I even could take what I wanted. I went back to my
parents house (who live near The Hague) that evening with
about 40 cd's. :)

no, I never read Oor anymore. I used to read it even though
I hated it, but I stopped doing that about 2 years ago,
because, well, I hate it. :P

and I can find more and better info on the internet.

aha, must be your intuition hehe
i dont like it that much, but you're right there-its
underworld so its nice to have it :)
actually im surelly going to buy their next album even
though i didnt like this one that much...

"LOTS of cd's go missing, simply because the people who

"

Hmpf... what a waste of money. I know some cd's are really
without any information on it. But i think in most cases the
artist and album-title are also featured on the disc itself.
If one employee would sit down with all those lost cd's for
an hour or two, i bet he could find the right case for at
least 90% of them (and then put the cd back where it
belongs).

"I even could take what I wanted. I went back to my
parents house (who live near The Hague) that evening with
about 40 cd's. :)
"

That is really nice though! I wish my brother had
such a cool job :-p (my brother wants to be a
music-journalist, and his biggest dream is to write for Oor,
haha...!)

"and I can find more and better info on the
internet
"

yes exactly, i've stopped buying magazines altogether
because of the internet.

"its underworld so its nice to have it :)"

exactly. Underworld is an awesome group. I think Born Slippy
was the first electronic track i ever really liked. I can't
really imagine skipping one of their albums :-)

its not as easy as it seems.

people misplace the cd-cases all the time. where are you
going to start looking? where could it be? well,
everywhere. there is NO way you can find 90% within
two hours.

actually, they asked me to work there - without them knowing
I was his brother. but I live in Utrecht, so not very handy.
oh well.

lol, is it really that bad? Whenever i go to a recordstore
to find a specific record... most of the times it's exactly
where i'd expect it to be. But then again... i'm probably
not browsing the most popular sections... sections that are
looked at by lots of people, must also get more cd's
misplaced.

I'd love to work in a recordstore :-) If they would pay for
the costs of travelling i wouldn't even mind having to go to
another city for it... probably.

cd-cases get misplaced and they just get plain stolen.

ah yes... another nice side-effect of illegal downloading.

what I really hated about Oor was the fucking makeover - "OH
SHIT! we're not hip anymore!! MAKE-OVER!! EMERGENCY
MAKE-OVER!!!"

and what did they come up with..?

a new logo.

and "reading time" per article.

that last one is especially l4m0r.

"and "reading time" per article."

i don't really understand the point of that :-s

But the make-over was definitely a good idea imo! (and
surely alot more changed than just the logo :-p). Just look
back at some of the old issues now... so old-fashioned. The
new layout is nothing special, but atleast it fits in 2003
