Response to Ae mix being cut short

Thank you for the e-mail which you sent to Mary Anne
regarding last night's
mix from Autechre.

In the last part of the mix Autechre had included clips from
some old news
bulletins. When we received the mix a few weeks ago, the
content wasn't
significant in the way that it is now - now that we're in a
full-on war
situation.

As part of the BBC, we have incredibly stringent guidelines
about
impartiality and sensitivity which we have to adhere to,
especially in
war-time. As you heard, Mary Anne did make a brief
announcement, that it
was part of Autechre's mix, but as the speech continued, the
content became
more and more unsuitable - and we took the decision to end
the mix early.
However the only part of the mix which therefore wasn't
broadcast was
literally the last few minutes.

Thanks again for your e-mail - I hope you enjoyed the mix -
the majority of
which we did put out.

"we have incredibly stringent guidelines about
impartiality"

Is that why their war coverage is simply littered with
pro-war military "experts" and various other blatant
warnographers?

I've hardly seen any dead bodies shown on the BBC... which
is strange considering there's a war on.

Impartial my arse!

As if people who sat through an hour long Ae set at gone
midnight are going to be the sort of uptight idiot to
complain because a track uses samples of bombs falling or
whatever.

Interesting... I wonder if it wasn't just the sounds of
bombing or gunfire or the like, but more overtly political
content, considering Autechre's stated anti-war position.

The "offensive material" that they are talking about,
sounded to me like Chris Morris' comedy. Autechre are
always going on about how funny he is, and i agree, he did
'The Day Today' and 'Brass Eye' and has stuff out on warp.
One of the things he does, is to take bits of speech from
old government announcements by Bush or whoever and he cuts
them up, so he says ridiculous things. The stuff that was
braodcastd was about terrorism in general, and i thought it
was funny. I also sent an e-mail to mary anne hobbs casue i
was so pissed off.

out' on radio 1

oh and when they say "However the only part of the mix which
therefore wasn't
broadcast was
literally the last few minutes."; thats also bullshit, there
was still 15 minutes left, and they were suppose to play to
more songs:

The Hafler Trio - 'Controller Of The Instrument 1' (Touch)

Curtis Roads - 'Sonal Atoms' (White Label)

yeah, it had a "cut short" and badly done way about it

i thought it odd that she made no mention of the mix being
cut short or any mention of her opinion on the mix - usually
she'd go "wow, that was amazing" or something. it was like,
forthe rest of the show, she had a gun to her head- all her
enthusiasm had gone when she had to cut in

damn shame thou
