Oliver Stone's great sometimes but shit other times. JFK and Any Given Sunday are shite, whereas Platoon and Natural Born Killers are masterpieces.

It had Cameron Diaz being a hardass, which was kinda sexy ;)
I think JFK is great, especially for the performances of Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Oldman and Kevin Bacon.

NBK is quite the film. had it been any less "artsy" it would have been a different film, a lesser film, imo.

What about U Turn? Mmmm, pre-botoxed J Lo topless.. It's funny how this movie is never mentioned on Behind the Music or other programs on her rise to fame.

I think natural born killers was a really good movie. It’s one of the rare cases where a director used a lot of visual effects and they actually complimented the storyline. I didn’t like how stone used the effects in U-Turn. Crap. I couldn’t see any reason why he was doing it, and it was distracting. But, in NBK he was showing the surreal nature of the story. It was an exaggeration of how the media is sensationalist. Almost all aspects of that flick were over exaggerated to the point of being ridiculous.
It’s crazy how many people missed the point of the movie and bashed NBK for it’s graphical nature. If anything that was exactly the point stone was trying to make. Many critics were just too short sighted to look deeper.
At least that’s what I got out of it.
JFK was a good entertainment piece, but I think he took a few creative leaps in the plot that made it a bit misleading and hurt the movie's overall possition as a provacative peice of film. that being said I liked it.

The effects just let you enter mickey and mallory's state of mind, while they are tripping and stuff.
Strange... I talked about NBK today with some colleagues

"It was an exaggeration of how the media is sensationalist."
yes I did get that.
I guess I think its the most obvious way to make your point - this combined with the feeling that that premisse isn't very interesting, did not make a good impression on me.

the effects do a lot more than that though.
mallory's home life plays out like a sit-com, which i at least took to be a pretty accurate play on society's preoccupation with television pseudo reality.

Stone wanted GYBE! on Any Given Sunday. I was reading something they had said about it...He wanted that part of Moya, you know, the climax in the song, during some part where they threw a football...GYBE! said it was ridiculous...Now I never want to see that movie, especially so I don't have to see what they substituted for GYBE!'s Moya.

I liked NBK, I don't think it was fantastic, but good. Tarantino said stone changed the script so much that he only wanted credit for the idea--wonder what his version was like.
