Is anyone else besides me worried about this? A mysterious disease that is spreading around the world killing people. Well... 'only' 1400 people have been infected so far, and something like 50 have died... so it's not a very fast epidemy. But still, there is no cure and no way of stopping it yet. So i find this scary :-/
It was just on the news this night that someone in belgium has been infected (the neighbouring country from where i live... and we even have belgium members of this board)... it's coming so close now.

yeah, that makes sense. Like natures way of dealing with overpopulation. Maybe it's very vain of us to think we can do something about it.

"well the flu virus keeps evolving, trying to outsmart our antibiotics."
Yes i knew about that. And medicine-companies don't really invest anymore in developping new types of antibiotics, because there isn't much profit to be made from that.
The most frustrating thing about that though, is that the main reason this happens is people don't finnish all the antibiotics they have been prescribed. When they feel better they stop taking it... so the remaining virus in their bodies grows resistent to the antibiotics.
People are so stupid...
"this could get very nasty."
I know :-( This really scares me alot what if...?

There was a huge story about this on the frontcover of my newspaper tomorrow (and the war only got 2 small collumns on the frontpage). Scary stuff. I didn't realise there have also been 6 cases reported in germany (our other neigbouring country). Dutch hospitals are already preparing quarantaine-rooms for any patients they might get.
"germs can't be contained folks"
That's what scares me. Maybe they should shut down commercial airlines altogether for a little while.

listen i survived one hellavah deadly outbreak about ummm 2-3 yrs ago. 98% of the people that got it died (it had people running outta the state i live in, like really fast) they finally figured out what it was Hanta Virus - and what caused it, and now it's not a problem.
it's not good to let FEAR control your life. if you're gonna get something, doesn't matter if you stay in your house or travel the world.......it's gonna happen. as i said.....germs can get in ANYWHERE......just stay away from infected peepz DOOD!

my aunt might have this.. she lives in atlanta where there was a major (?) outbreak.. or at least it was one of the notable american cities w/ a sizable amount of infections.. she thinks it's pneumonia.. and she said sh'es never felt this sick.. and SARS has pneumonia-and flu-like symptoms so.. I dont know
is anyone else thinking retaliatory bio-terrorism? planes are being downed all over because of this.. an airplane seems to be one sure place of getting this SARS
I dont think it's completely airbourne right nwo.. but it can be transmitted via droplets eg vapor from a cough or from a sneeze etc..

it's not bio terrorism IMO.....i mean we are breeding horrible diseases by making and TAKING so many damn meds.....people are getting immune to penicillan, it's a wonder any kind of anti biotic works anymore with all the shite people take.
i try taking as lil med's as possible so when i need an asprin to WORK, it will.....and i won't have to down 6 like is see some fools doing.

"are you nuts.......shut down air travel?? bad bad idea"
well i'm not an expert at all :-) Maybe it is a stupid idea, i don't know. But let's say hypothetically, things do get really ugly with this virus, and it ends up killing millions of people all over the world.
And when historians look back at it 200 years from now... they will realise the disease could have been contained to just china if all flights to/from china would have been cancelled. But we didn't do that because we thought being able to fly was too important... but because of it the virus gets spread all over world. I don't know... it just seems stupid to me. But i realise i have a very amateuristic viewpoint... shutting down commercial airlines will no doubt have much more consequences than i can possibly imagine :-/

"just stay away from infected peepz DOOD!"
I watched a discussion about this last night on the tv. And there was this specialist who said the most dangerous thing about SARS could be that it doesn't seem to kill everyone who gets it.
(like dinosaur said: 2,325 reported cases, and only 78 people died).
That could mean some people could be a carrier of the disease without knowing it (they would just get a slight cold which would go away without medical help)... but they are infected, so they are spreading the virus around. There'd be no way to possibly contain it in that case... scary stuff :-s
But that specialist admitted it was just a worst case scenario at this point, because they just don't understand the virus well enough yet to know how it'll behave.

salma - i've read that, and seen the mini series.......DOES sound oddly famil. however this is not like ebola or even the hanta virus......it's not killing mass amounts of people......YET!
lets hope they get a handle on it!
surrounded - it will spread w/out air travel, and right now with the industry the way it is, it's just not a good idea to stop/slow down air travel. people just need to be smart and take precautions. and if you don't REALLY need to go to China......don't go right now!
