Laqeuro: I like Gollum too, he's a more complex character
than most people realize. I think the movies are doing a
good job of showing that inner conflict.

I haven't been able to get into Robert Jordan very much...
he just seems too damn wordy, like you could cut 200 pages
out of each of his books and not lose a shred of plot.

My couple of friends of mine who are into that said that you
have to let them grow on you. Maybe it's just cause I don't
go for that genre of fantasy as much as I do for SF...

READ his biography =0)

fascinating!!!

glad you stuck with it, the language (like shakespeare, and
herbert) can be daunting for some people.

CHEERS to you!

LOTR? hmm. never got around to it.

but garth nix's series including sabriel,
lirael, and the recently released abhorsen is
just...well. absolutely fucking incredible. and anyone who's
unfamiliar with these books but enjoys a good 'fantasy' here
and there...well. look into it.

well worth your time.

if anyone wants to read a series of books as good as LOTR
try A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin.

arre they "carrtoony". its sounds silly but thats all i see
when i rread LOTR's, little brrightly colourred carrtoon
charracterrs.

Like in The Hobbit wherre the dwarrfs arre hanging therre
rred and grreen and silverr hats up.

its more realistic and adult than LOTR and the characters
are some of the best i've encountered in a book.

after the movie was released in theaters. I still saw it in
the theater and plan to buy it, but I still couldn't help
but laugh.

I have been wondering a little bit about Garth Nix's books.
They don't have a "childish" feel, do they?

The last sort-of-fantasy books I read were the His Dark
Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.
