i just got a courtesy call from comcast saying that they've doubled their speed to 256k... they said all i had to do is turn everything off, and unplug the power to my modem and cpu for 60 seconds. then i plug it back in, and voila! 256k... my question is: can this harm my cpu? should i do a backup first? what the dilly yo?

lol all they mean is shutdownyour computer turn it off ,
unplug the power from the cable modem,
this will cause it to release the static MAC address on the NIC, then wait a few minutes, turn it all back on, it will renew information from proxy & servers, and you should have your new upload speeds.
