My Town Council suck

We are trying to book our second anti-war meeting but they
are now asking the police about our meeting, since if we
invite members of the public to join our meeting, they are
concerned about safety.

How stupid is that? Dissent is being silenced.

Completely responsible of them- can you imagine if they let
Looney lefties into the assembly building? It's a situation
waiting to happen...

Or do you mean a public meeting?

At this state in the game all anti-war protests will just
reduce morale of our own troops, not to mention eating tax
payers money (which could be better spent on education) in
police escorts etc. After being mocked over 'nam for years
the USA won't pull out now...

I think they're just trying to avoid a clash between
supporters and protesters, which could turn violent by
either side if things get heated. Unless they won't grant
your meeting, I think it's okay what they are doing.

Yeah I was actually thinking on the way to work yesterday, I
may to anti war demo and stand in front of them and shout
"Shame on you". Always good to put yourself in front
of a crowd that are not happy with you. Does wonders for
your self confidence and besides, there'd be loads of police
to protect me.

Fuck the troops! They should just mutiny. THEN they'll get
my support.

And We are not wasting public money the GOVERMENT are on
this war. Policing of demos will not cost 15 billion.

But the 15 billion will pay for itself in all the oil we'll
steal :D

But this is a sleepy town and we are talking about a small
anti-war group, not a confrontation of any kind. there will
be no pro-war people in the vicintity; none that would
bother with us anyway.

All the protesters in Swansea yesterday blocked off the bus
route/shopping section/pub crawl street by lying in the
middle of the road.

Actually they may have just been the local tramps pissed on
Special Brew

Teabag and co. up to their tricks eh?

Protesting that way is inconsiderate and highly antisocial.
If it delayed me for anything remotely important I'd get out
my car and give one of them a kicking.

Jonesy: In response to XLR- you're right, I bet most of the
people in Cardiff don't even know there's a war on ;)
Seriously, I don't think anyone would bother you and it does
seem a little harsh. Is this a protest at work or in the
street?

You could try Ceri but you'd take a severe beating by a very
large crowd. We may want peace but we ain't pussies.

And its a meeting.

So much for peaceful protest, eh? The police would fucking
dick you in a few minutes. They love and excuse to give any
sort of crowd a beating.

I might do this as a way of getting the anti-war lot some
bad press, if I there's one in Bristol this weekend (NB
Bristol have absolutely shit loads of riot police so I'd be
quite safe...)

Again, is this "meeting" in the assembly building or out on
the street?

Cfern: I calculated that this war has already cost me 2
cheap white labels in increased petrol prices. Makes me
seethe.

Ah sorry, I just realised which post you were following up
to... I thought you meant I'd get a kicking for shouting
"shame on you" - I thought it'd be a bit hypocritical for a
peaceful protest not to respect my right to protest.

Seriously, don't you think antisocial protest like lying in
the road just pisses people off and actually has a negative
effect?

I'd love if some terrorists launched some bio/chemical
weapons on these protesters. That would be sweet.

Yeah, I would actually piss myself if an anti war protestor
was on the recieving end of terrorist attack. Doomsday is
coming and it's non-partisan pal, etc ;)

It's like that animal rights protestor who complained about
that thing in Spain where bulls run through the streets...
her shouting enraged the bull and it gored her to death.
Unpleasent, but not without a touch of humour.

Was the article mentioned here about the two protesters
fell/jumpedoff the Golden Gate Bridge ?

They fell to their death.
Serves them right.

-2nd Bridge Fall Kills Foe of War-
All
afternoon long, co-workers said, Paul Alladin Alarab's
9-year-old son called the office looking for his father. But
Alarab, a 44-year-old Iraqi American, deeply troubled by the
looming war, was already dead at the bottom of the Golden
Gate Bridge on Wednesday after what authorities described as
a protest suicide.

I know this will enrage a lot of peopel here, but I really
think a lot of protesting is just as much attention seeking
by being seen to go "against the grain" as it is about
whatever the issue. I even know a couple of people who go to
protests regardless of what their in aid of.

Reminds me of a story my (hippy) father told me:
One day at college a mate said to him, "Let's have a sit
in!"
"What about?"
"If we sit in for 10 minutes we'll think of something..."

Given that the past week as seen more vociferous and
disruptive demos it can hardly be surprising if they want to
get police advice first, particularly as it opens them up to
possible legal action if someone got injured.

I know someone who will, quite literally throw bricks into
any antiwar demos he encounters...

It's probably as much for the protestors safety as anything
they're consulting the police. Crazy stuff tends to happen
when mob mentality sets in.

He he, I just realised you could draw parallels between this
thread and what goes on on the soulcrew's MB. I was going to
place a link, but their website is down.

Needless to say Jonesy, I wouldn't attack you if you
lay in the road in front of my car. I'd just chuck some S
club in the stereo & crank it up to make you shift :P
