Oh yes......I did it, I bought myself a new screen for my
computer....a 17" Samsung flat panel.

Its very cool.....its one of those ones you can rotate the
screen and change the ratio to portrait for using with DTP
apps..

XLTronic looks much better now!!

:)

Using a monitor in 'portrait' mode is very weird...I'll not
keep it in that mode normally, but when I'm creating
documents for work and stuff..its great because you can see
the full page in full screen mode!

*Big grin on face -----> : ) *

when my roomate got a 17" LCD, my 15" started looking REAL
small.

however, i have no money for upgrade, so I am satisfied

Its quite surprising how much bigger the screen is than my
17" crt monitor....because monitors are never what they say
they are - measure the diagonals, all of you who don't
believe me!

well, a typical telivions CRT is measure form the front of
the screen, to the rear of the tube, it has nothing to do
with screen size, though they tyically are within an inch of
each other.

a 17" LCD though, is 17" diagnolly.
A 17" CRT typically conforms to the TV measurement, though I
have seen a few otherwise.

I thought monitors were measured from one corner of the
actual screen to the other, and then the bezel cut down on
the visible area?

I just got a Samsung 900nf 19 inch monitor. The box was so
damn big we could hardly fit it in the car (goddamn
Nissan).

I'm quite pleased with it so far, though it is a bear to
adjust. Lots and lots of settings! Good for picky people
like me. The gamma is excellent - you see all the near-black
shades without having to bump up the brightness until the
black areas look milky. Very nice color too. Convergence and
focus gets 4/5 stars, or maybe I have to tweak the
adjustments some more and try different refresh rates.

I think I got lucky because I've heard that Samsung has some
quality control issues with this model... or maybe it was
reviewed by stupid people who didn't know what a trinitron
flatscreen was supposed to look like.

I went a bought myself the Samsung 19" one, the one with the
ultra thin bevel. Probably te same design as yours. It's
niiiice especially for viewing DVDs and stuff plus I use 3d
studio max a lot so it's handy. However I'd recommend all
you folk thinking about getting one to wait a bit. The
technology isn't quite CRT level yet and it blurs a fair
amount with 3D graphics. Ok by 'a fair amount' I mean that
you have to be 2 millimeters away from the sreen and have
super vision but what can I say, I'm a perfectionist!
Enjoy.

I use 2 screens. The 17" TFT is the same size as my 19" CRT.
Now I need to get me the "megademo" of XP Pro and a cheapo
GF4. I can't believe XP Home doesn't support 2 monitors.

Also. Flat screens are made for a specific resolution. Like
this 17" is made for 1280x1024. If you need to change
resolutions alot or play alot of games, maybe a CRT is
better. Using any other resolution will cause a sort of
crayon effect.

also most current lcds have a response time of 25ms
there are one or two that have a response time of 16ms
making them almost suitable for gaming

i shall buy one within the next 6 months i think, my crt
takes up FAR too much space
