if any of the Quarters are a masterpiece... it would have to
be Draun Quarter =]

I think Draun Quarter depicts greater emotions in sound,
yes! I can imagine a great montage of life from beginning to
end.

You can?t have heard a lot of Autechres music?

Envane is one of the best records among my 680 cds.

i can't pick out any old track off of envane. for weeks
i've been trying to pick my favorite off of it. the ep is
just too damn solid.

so i was reading not to interesting threads and then this
track popped in my head
i listened to it yesterdaynight (just got envane) and
couldnt help being disappointed by the sound, it might be
they didnt have frank arkwright mastering yet, i might be
talking crap here but it's just not as spacey sounding as do
some other ae's
im tired i go to bed

offline k_maty on 2003-10-03 20:05 [#00888622]
Points: 2362 Status: Regular

i agree.

when did frank start mastering? And what exactly is
mastering?

offline big from lsg on 2003-10-03 20:23 [#00888634]

tnx
well as i've learnt mastering is the final mixing so that
it's mixed just perfect and also that (among stuff i dont
know) it sounds good on every set it's played on: in the
studio it might sound great, but on your cheap stereo not at
all (that's the reason they always work with two sets of
speakers in studio's as well, one good, one less good)
so the first part i discribed might be why ae tracks sound
better with frank's mastering.
i have no idea when he started mastering (cant find it in
the discography here) but i couldnt find him on peel session
II either, and that was where i based my assumption on a
bit: gaekwad really works for me, might be because ae just
got better, or they mixed it more spacely

offline big from lsg on 2003-10-03 20:42 [#00888659]

and so i just listened to it, and the melody is so
hauntingly in my head, as happens more often with ae, and so
i háve to listen to it in bed again and just mainly hear
the, for me, disappointing sound, and the first track draws
me to itself too, but i cant listen to that because it hurts
my ears to bad
i have a somewhat disturbed relationship with envane

'97 was an amazing year for autechre. i have cichlisuite and
envane on a tape in my car, and it honestly hasn't come out
for a little over a month now. i wonder when i'll finally
feel the need for something different. not soon, i'm
guessing.

Laughing Quarter does indeed kick ass, and i think Goz
Quarter comes in second place on the Envane EP.

Haha, Autechre's roots are in hip hop. There's the track
'v-proc' which is probably 'uprock': a type of hip-hop break
dancing, just another little tidbit.

What kind of album does this look like? Note: the tag
writing says "Autechre" in case you can't make it out

""reniform" means kidney-shaped, "pulse" means (in addition
to the usual meaning) bean or legume."

the last track of confield is 'lentic catachresis', lentic;
lentel.

heh, what's with autechre and kidney beans? or beans at
least. the title is also a catachresis in itself, though
what word should be used instead of lentic; i don't know.

oops, maybe i was wrong associating 'lentic' with 'lentel'.

i guess it turns out that: 'Lentic means "living in swamp,
pond, lake or any other standing water." '

That is one of the greatest EPs in the history of electronic
music, and music in general. Beethoven himself couldn't top
that EP.

Laughing Quarter is probably my favorite on there, and then
Draun Quarter.

What's that website that has the opening Draun Quarter loop
in the intro?
