I'm seriously thinking of getting one soon with my student
loan, i'd like to wait for it to come down in price but
when's that gonna happen??

oh and what earphones do you use? i heard the earphones you
get with it aren't very good, i might get the new sony
fontopia earphone, anyone got these?

Theres new ones coming soon, so the price on the older ones
will be smaller... (Toshiba, who makes the harddrive has
released 30 & 40 GB drives now, coming soon to iPod...

Nice to have all tracks with you all the time BUT - I don?t
like that the thing hasn?t got any recording and that the
battery is an internal one (to change it costs almost like a
new one! It only works for about 18 months, if you are
unlucky...).

i think these mp3 players are overrated

buy a cd player that also plays mp3's. mine only cost me
75$ and i have virtually unlimited storage for 2cents per
blank cd.

'course if you need the portable hard drive capability then
the 75$ cd player isn't going to do the trick.

...eh, well Apple is going to present a new music service in
April. They will then also release new firmware to all iPods
giving them ability to play AAC audio (the new music service
uses AAC).

There will be an update of the current line of iPods then,
maybe a new design even!

(who loves his sony md - 5 hours recording time!)

I got a 10GB iPod last year, and although I first thought
that they were very overpriced, I have since changed my mind
and recommend them to anyone. I am a biologist and do mostly
solitary work in the lab, so it is perfect company during
the day. If you have a job such as this you would benefit
from one for sure.

50 cds for a dollar?

i think maybe you mean 20 cents a piece? (20 bucks=100
cds?)
crazy talk

I got a 10gig ipod for $400. The earphones aren't the
greatest so sometimes I plug in my Sennheiser eH2200 when
I'm not at work.

The only thing bad so far was my carrying case. They are
made with some cheap parts as far as the clip goes. I broke
mine today because I was getting out of my car and I think
it got stuck on my seatbelt or something. I looked down and
my ipod is lying on the ground in its case with a missing
clip. Thankfully the case itself is a decent shield against
dropping your ipod, so I just leave my ipod in the carrying
case and put it in my pocket instead of clipping it to my
belt :P

Anyways other than that its been great so far.

Yeah many seem to have problems with the clips, there are
lots of replacements though!

The trancelucent iSleeve is the coolest so far, almost
unvisible!

chekc the player by emagic called the "Treo"

i've got one on order and they are a third the price of
ipods for the same storage

though they're usb1 if that bothers you and they're ugly as
sin, if that bothers you too

neither bother me as i'm slow and unattractive anyway

lol

I see the iPod as cool and slick, but still, 20 gigs of
music? that is a fucking ton to ever get through.

If I got an mp3 player, it would be light and portable.

blah, what do I know about anything

i'd like to recommend you people a new swedish product
called "Jens Of Sweden" (lame name i know) MP 200 HD. it's a
20GB MP3 player that also works as a removable HD. it uses
USB 2.0 (480 mbps transfer rate! faster than firewire), has
a built in radio, a line-in for recording (!) and also a
built in microphone. when recording, it encodes it directly
into MP3 (quality from 32-128 kbit/s), firmware upgradable,
packed full of features...
and the best of all; it's almost half the price of a 20 GB
iPod (here in Sweden anyways)!!!
3475 SEK / ~406 USD

http://www.jensofsweden.com

i should be a salesman right? ;)

one question,
i already e-mailed apple but they still owe me a answer...:
what bitrates are possible on these i-pods?

btw i dont see a way how to get me that great swedish
product, asides that it is still unreleased :(

ijonspeches: depending on how you import your cds, any
biterate will do. although (duh) higher biterates take up
more room. if you're using itunes, which i do, i find
160kb/s works great, that is the advertised biterate (1000
songs for the 5gb)

offline forck_02lynix from brooklyn on 2003-03-13 06:56 [#00593290]

i got an ipod this past christmas, the 5gb model.

(+):
- holds 1000 songs at 160 kb/s! thats plenty for me!
- sleek and easy to use!
- fits in your pocket!
- works wonderfully! haven't had any real problems

(-):
- is a bit heavy, but this is not a huge problem
- earbuds suck, i use my old sony over-the-ear types
- internal battery needs charging about once a week,
depending on use, and will be mighty expensive to replace

that's it. i have used this thing everyday since christmas
and i love it! i have a groove jacket (the clear rubber
sleeve), only prob - it gets kinda dirty. i also use it for
transporting my files from school to home, so the option of
it being an external hd works great for me, dont need to use
zip discs as often!

thanks for that bitrate hint, forck_02lynix

sounds like it doesnt even matter what bitrate i have on my
mp3s if i just import them via this software these ipods are
using.

ok, now i only have to get one of these.
im waiting for the Jens of Sweden i guess, just a couple of
weeks, and if they send it to germany im going to be a lucky
owner of such a wonder.
maybe apple will make it cheaper soon, and it may have a
chance then...

hach, im so happily and eagerly waitng ;P
