Well i finally did it. Yesterday i went out and bought myself a Gamecube :-)
But i'm a little confused about the memory-card... Because of the way it sticks out of the cube even when plugged in (i had thought you'd be able to shove it all the way up into that slot), and whenever you save something the game warns you not to touch the memory-card... does that mean you always have to remove the memory-card whenever you stop playing with the gamecube?
I was kinda thinking (and hoping) that i could just let it in the gamecube forever and wouldn't have to worry about it anymore...?
Other than that, i'm loving it! :-D The cube itself came with Pikmin for free... which i've only played for a little while, and looked very promising. But i also bought Mario Sunshine, and that is just taking up all my time and concentration right now ;-) I'll come back to pikmin after i finnish mario.

Nice one mate, the Gamecube will provide you with many a joyous hour :)
Don't worry about the memory card, it's meant to stick out (think about it, how else would you get it out :P).
Looking forawrd to playing Metroid myself :D

"Don't worry about the memory card, it's meant to stick out"
ah great! Thanks :-)
"(think about it, how else would you get it out :P)."
hehe, that's a good point actually ;-)
I've had all the nintendo home-consoles since the NES... wasn't sure if i would also get the cube, but now i'm so glad that i did :-) it's wonderful!
Yeah metroid is surely one to look forward to, but the game i'm really waiting for is definitely Zelda :-)

hehe, yeah that game will be very popular I think :)
I'm not really a fan of Nintendo games really, I don't like any of the franchises apart from Metroid so I really bought the console for its 3rd party games (Super Monkey Ball I just had to play!!).

there's only one real downfall to the (original_59) gamecube memory card, it takes way too little time to fill up. Can any of you american/jap players of metriod prime tell me how many blocks it uses?, I'm betting that I'll need to get one of those larger 256 ones for prime/windwaker

He he- Shenmue on the DC uses up close to 1/2 a memory card for one save!
Surrpunded, you can leave the memory card in all the time. The "don't remove" is jsut because you can corrupt your memory card by pulling it out mid save- don't worry, even if you do that you could still erase it to save it...

Okay, thanks for all the memory-card advice everybody... i'm just gonna leave it in my gamecube... FOREVER :-p
Actually i already noticed in the store Mario Sunshine needs 7 blocks, and pikmin needs 19 blocks... i did some quick calculations... (...2 or 3 more games and the regular memorycard will already be full) and bought the slightly more expensive 251 block MemoryCard.
"if you dig the game mario.. well just see for yourself..."
yeah it's great! I'm finally getting the hang of that waterpump-thingy now... you really feel like mario can do anything he wants in this game... jumping from one small ledge to another isn't even half as scary anymore as it was in mario64... the FLUDD gives you much more control :-D
I am getting a bit tired of fighting all the piranha-plants though... i hope other enemies will pop up later in the game.
"get yourself metroid prime"
Yes ofcourse i'll get that one, and zelda too! There is no doubt about those, i MUST have them :-p

Hello George. I don't mean to insinuate you're stupid, but your first post made me laugh a lot earlier today :D
The standard Gamecube memory cards are CRAP, they get full in no time at all. I'm glad I don't buy hardly any games for mine or I'd be well annoyed :)
Metroid Prime is actually out this week, isn't it? Or maybe that's Super Monkey Ball 2. They'll be the first games I'm going to get since Mario Sunshine...

"Hello George. I don't mean to insinuate you're stupid, but your first post made me laugh a lot earlier today :D"
Lol, so you read it, and you didn't even reply to help me out? :-p You bastard!
Well you have to understand the only consoles i've ever played on were by nintendo... i've never had a playstation, xbox or whatever. So i'm really not familiar with games on discs and memorycards and such. I'm still used to good old cartridges ;-) I'm slowly beginning to understand how this stuff works now.
Metroid is coming out soon anyway... all over europe. Probably this week or the next. They've made the european version more difficult than the american versions (less powerups, and your energy goes down faster etc.)... prepare thyself! :-p

Heheh, no I wasn't being cruel, I can browse but not post in my office now for some reason, so I was helpless to assist you ;)
They usually make games really easy in Japan and then toughen them up for the rest of the world, but obviously the Yanks and the like can't handle the pace so they need to easy stuff up for 'em :D Europe is hard as fuck!!!

Definately. Especially if you've never played the original..
I picked it up about a week ago and have been playing nonstop ever since. While it lacks the technical polish found in most of Square's heavyweights it more than makes up for it in childlike charm. I really like the sense of ownership you get out of managing your own pirate ship/crew/base as well...
Wow.. I'm going to live with my mom forever aren't I?

Dael, my copy of Metroid Prine currently has 2 games being played, which both save in the same memory block, and it only takes up 1 slot.

Panzer Dragoon is overrated in my opinion. Maybe if I had played the earlier games in the series when I was younger I would have enjoyed it more. It's not a bad game, just not my type. I'd have more fun shooting nerf balls at birds on a rollercoaster. Also, apart from being pseudo-nonlinear it's got to be the biggest button masher of all time. I had to stop playing every 10 minutes to massage my finger tendons in buttermilk.

Man I got burnt on that GC memory card. When I bought my GC I also picked up a used memory card, which I brought home and used without any problem, untill I purchased NHL2K3, which needs 125 slots to save. Now here I am with a 50 odd slot card, wondering how the fuck I can save my game. I later find out Nintendo has released a new memoery card with 250odd blocks...... BASTARDS.

well i really fucked up on pikmin :-p I'm already at day 8, and only picked up 3 engineparts so far... hehe... i guess i'll have to start over eventually. But i'm mostly playing mario sunshine now...
i love this game! :-D
It's a shame they changed the swimming-technique though... i thought swimming felt much more natural in mario64... hm. Maybe nintendo wanted to bring back the swim-feeling from the old 2d mario games, where you also had to keep tapping the jump-button. Maybe... but i still prefer the underwater-levels from mario64 ;-D
Other than that i think sunshine is better though, the level-design in this game is incredible! There's something entertaining to do on every square inch of the game it seems :-)
