not secrets, but privacy YES. trust IS being able to handle the other person having things in his/her life seperate from the relationship. if you share EVERYTHING, you will get clostrophobic, OR tension will mount, usually over dumb things. a seperate email account is perfectly reasonable. UNLESS you are doing something shady, in which case, the other person has right to be suspicious.

two diferent people... so privacy of both is essential for the couple.
if you do not trust your couple...then you better leave that relationship... otherway you will go crazy

He he, me and my ex used to have access to each other's email accounts. After I deleted something from her account things got a bit awkward and we reverted to seperate accounts.
I don't see why they should feel awkward about opening it in front of you (unless they've ordered you something from warp or wherever for your bd!)
