"The IDM end of the electronic music spectrum has a rep
for darkness, nihilism, and impenetrable abstraction."

From a review of Mouse on Mars' EP compilation
"Rost Pocks"

I don't see how people could call a lot of rephlex's stuff
"dark". It seems quite tongue in cheek to me. Even the evil
laughter in Astrobotnia is quite funny...

Ceri: Can you explain a foreigner what the expression
"tounge in cheek" means?

"tounge in cheek" basically means its just something you can
smirk at, something not to be taken seriously.

Some aspect in a concept blowing out of proportions so that
it becomes in a special way funny. A bit of self mockery I
guess

all this pitchfork sucks buisness - what you really mean is
pitchfork contains the perspectives of alot of different
writters who's words i may not occasionally agree with ...
it's a bit smug to expect to agree with everything everyone
who writes for pitchfork says in the hour or so a day they
get to knock out a review .. if everyone agreed then life
would be fucking dull anyway

offline pantalaimon from Winterfell (United Kingdom) on 2003-03-05 14:40 [#00582149]

nope, i've read a few reviews on there its not the fact that
they have different opinions, its the way they write the
reviews and the reasons they give that make people (or at
least me) have the opinion that they do indeed suck.

erm... no.

did you even read my post?

do you work for them or something? you seem pretty upset
that some people here don't like pitchfork.

I don’t agree with Pitchfork either. :>

I mean I really don’t agree with them.

But I like to form my own opinion of music anyway from
samples available to download. I guess reviews are not my
thing. I want them to review track 2 from SponCD1 however
but this is an in-joke for my own amusement. I’m stoned
too so I’m gonna take it off-line soon. }:>

so yuo admit you don't agree with them - that is to say you
don't see the music you love from the viewpoint they do...

absorb.org is better btw or the bbc site which has a much
broasser range www.bbc.co.uk/music

offline pantalaimon from Winterfell (United Kingdom) on 2003-03-05 15:10 [#00582172]
Points: 7090 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

*sigh* no one is going to agree with them 100% of the time
and I cant stand the way they write the reviews, which is
the main reason why i don't like them.

and yes the bbc site is good, i've been there before, some
nice reviews. I'll have to check out the absorb site, thx.

I like their style.

Their review of Moby Play and 18 was too harsh though.
