I've always hated this, but while listening to it this evening I had a strange love for it. The only problem I find with it, is that on headphones many of the tracks don't sound that "stereo-y" if you get me (really dry) particullarly the first track (try it to see what I mean) and some others.
I love track 2, with those odd chords and mangled voice now, and also 3, since I can hear the different layers. The second half has some great tunes too. I like this album more now, although some if it is still unlistenable.
I also wondered why they made Outpt so repetetive...I enjoyed it for a while...but It stays exactly the same (no noticeable subtle changes like some other tracks)
What do you think?

they probably need to use some reverb to seperate the various elements

well it may not sound stereoy because the different channels are being used for different sounds to give that expansive busy feeling..
but i love EP7
Confield makes a lot more sense when heard in progression after LP5 and EP7

Yes, but they should simply add a TINY bit of reverb or chorus imho...its sounds like it's being played through some mono headphones or something ridiculous like that. (note, not all the tracks)

Do you think they made it really mono-sounding on purpose? Or was it simply becuase they forgot to add any stereo effects?
I know it sounds like a ridiculous complaint, but seriously...it's really annoying to listen to on my CDman (on the pc, I add a little reverb myslef, and it sounds great)

No no no! :D
No, seriously, I KNOW I am being picky but as a musician shit like this really pisses me off...I mean, couldn't they be arsed to make it sound good/stereo? I mean, I ALWAYS add a slight touch of reverb to the first track (try it, with headphones...it sounds so much better)

Yeah, it doesn't bother me particularly much and I love EP7. To me it seems like they were trying to create a certain mood. Who knows, maybe adding reverb would have changed the mood?

ep7's problem is it's trying to be an album with EP material on it. Therefore, the whole thing sounds out of whack: Half very good tracks, half throwaways. That's not an Ae album...

bollocks, confield is a whole spectrum of moods just like ep7 is, every last fucking track on ep7 is excellent or why would they bring it out in the US, and why would it be my favorite to this day. outpt is a gurgling epic and one of their classics, the few seconds of white noise in the beginning.. you want to call that song repetitive when chiastic slide sounds like a broken laundry machine half the time, not that i don't adore that album, but yalls just fessin don't TRIP

stereo tricks are just that: tricks.
Outpt does change, you just arent listening. Listen to the things that are not beats. It's actually one of the illest melodic tracks on the record if you listen closely. Clue: listen to the WHOLE thing.

Ok, I'll give that track another try.
But try it on headphones-the lack of panning, or any stereo-effect makes SOME tracks sound dead. imho.

It's a very good autechre album in my opinion. Outpt on the other hand is one of the worst autechre songs I've ever heard.
The rest of the album is very good, I love the good old autechre beats and the melodies.

in autechre the concept of EP is very different to what an album is... they give the eps a clear use... and ep7 is that... an ep, not in its lengh maybe, but it is an ep in the whole concept

True. But Autechre's EPs sometimes function as records onto themselves (e.g. Garbage), not to mention they're good indicators as to the direction of their next LP. ep7 is a bit hard to swallow as a self-standing record, but it was a great indicator as to how Confield turned out.

ep 7.1 and ep 7.2 were born as two pieces of vinyl. All those tracks couldn't fit one piece of high-quality vinyl.
7.2 does work better, I'll give you that, though "liccfli" is out of place among the others...IMO.

thank god ae stopped using as much reverb as they used to (most notably on "amber" and "tri repetae").
imo, it does sound cheap and it is really unnecessarry.

Yes, I merely used reverb as an example of a way to make a track stereo-sounding. The second track has no reverb, but it sounds stereo. The first sounds really mono.
