Are there any other doors fans out there? My mom was in love with them (mostly Morrison), and I love most of their music aswell, Morrison was a great poet in his early days, very well read. It's really great experimental music for the time, it's to bad Morrison loved drugs so much... if I could see one rock and roll concert, it would be a doors concert in there hayday: totally spontanious and unpredictable, weirdness all around, you just never know whats next... classic

I'm a big fan ever since I saw Olivier Stone's movie about them. I've got al their work and they have so much beter things on album than that they released.
My favorite album is An American Prayer. I even did a pilgrimage to Pere lachaise a couple of years ago. Very spiritual place. :)

I've seen once the 'LA Doors'. Nice show and the guy who 'played' Jim was one hell of a character actor, including bottle of jack and burning joint. I really enjoyed that show.

I love the fucking Doors. Listening to "Best Of" now. Morrison was cool, but the band was totally unique. Great stuff.

A friend of mine in College was a big Greatful Dead fan, but he absolutely hated the Doors. Said they were too dark and negative or some shit. I personally listened to hundreds of hours of the Dead while smoking grass in this cat's apartment, and they only bored me for the most part.

Legends, but I don't like them as much as I used to, already went through my Doors phase a few years ago. Morrison is undeniably a Sex Gawd.

The Doors were an amazing band.
They're music was so creative, not one song resembled any other, Jim was an outstanding performer and wrote some great poetry.
The only thing I regret about them is that these days there are too many live albums and best off-compilations around, but that's not their fault probably.

Jim would turn himself in his grave if he knew what their were doing with his art. That's if he's actually dead offcourse. :)
Verkrampte, is it the Sugarman bio that you're reading?

I used to love them about 8 years ago when I was smoking weed all the time.
While I stand by a few songs like the End, Riders etc I think they aren't very good. And Morrison's pretentious "poetry" is mostly complete guff.

Yeah I pretty much agree. I like about 6-8 songs by them, the rest I think is horrendous. Decent film though (if ludicrously exaggerated).

But yeah, get yo'self the Best Of and you have all you need by them. Even if they are a bit 6th form.

Absolutely, in celebration I watched my entire collection of Darling Buds of May videos. She was so wholesome back then.
You're right about the 6th form thing as well, practically my entire class was listening to the Doors as a means of illustrating how "grown up" they were.

Yeah, every 16 to 18 year old goes through a Doors phase.

The Doors are a fine band. But respect-wise, they're just like Led Zeppelin... a lot of not-so-musically inclined n00bs give them too much credit, and a lot of snooty elitists don't give them enough.
They've aged, but I think they've done it with style, a goofy/graceful hybrid. Really, the organ sound is extremely distinctive, as is Jim's whole attitude and voice. And I'll be fuckdamned if Not to Touch the Earth isn't totally fucking awesome.
