(a watmm-originating thread by ME) Tell me about the images that come into your mind when you listen to a track... lemme start with my dark stuff. Autechre - Bine... THE MOTHERFUCKING YAWNING CYCLOPIC ABYSS OF CHAOS!!! Really horrific, it's what Hell is supposed to be like. Things flying around, black and brown, real fast, no structure, only terror. Like one of my recursive nightmares about a grammatical error in a word you can't track down!!! YOU KNOW IT'S THERE BUT YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS!!! YOU GET LOST IN THE STRUCTURE!!! IT GETS OVER YOU!!! YOU GET LOST AND CHOKE IN ITS WRAPS OF INHUMAN CHAOS!!! Autechre - Zeiss Contarex... A death sentence brought out to you by a civilisation of insects. Ae - Rae... some big clumsy rusty metal dull edged killing machine smiles, stomping around on a flowerfield, smelling flowers and looking into the river for its own reflection etc... Ae - 444... A tragic message, warning from the future: "don't make our mistakes... don't go the way we did"... hehehe Tha - Rich lying face upwards in the middle of a vast wild grass field, with sun shining brightly hot, only a few clouds on the sky, and by his head there is a working greasy black-stained oil pump (which emits the THA-WOOT-THA noises throughout the song) sticking out of the grass. |

*re-re-copypasting my previous answers* Aphex Twin - [tree]: this track makes me feel like i'm under a giant, very very old tree... into the ground with the stones and all that, only seeing the tree above me... Aphex Twin - [blue calx]: like i'm in a underwater ancient city, in a library or a temple... with only little light... a bit like in the underwater room in the sunken boat in Myst Aphex Twin - On: not very original, but it makes me think of a beach, like in the video (without the random stuff ;)) Aphex Twin - Yellow Calx: no pictures, but a feeling of being in a cocoon or something like that... NIN - The Frail: the first night i spent in Japan, with my classmates... we were in a seminary house who looked like a dojo, there was a beautiful garden with bamboos, trees, etc... i was listening to The Fragile this night... The Frail reminds me of this, a very peaceful, beautiful track...  NIN - No, You Don't: i think of a black monster with evil red eyes, rising out of a dark lake at sunset, heading for a town to burn it... i don't know why... NIN - Into The Void: i think of this song almost every time i see red... and this song makes me think of the color red every time i hear it... because of the packaging and of the video i suppose, but this is the only song which makes me think that much of a color... Marilyn Manson - The Reflecting God: i was on a beach, it was about 6 or 7 pm, there was a lot of fog, i couldn't see the coast, the wet sand and the blurry sun were all that i could see, nobody was there... i felt like i was in another world... not a lot to do with the song but it reminds me of that  :) Coil - Titan Arch: a dark architecture, ancient city with temples, in sepia/black in white, buried deep into a giant cavity underground... |

some new associations i've made: Aphex Twin - Jynweythek a toybox in an wooden attic, with the sun shining its amber light through the windows... dust flying in the sunshine. warm feeling, good memories... Einstürzende Neubauten - Kalte Sterne a ghost mermaid (i picture her as me in my dreams) laying alone, dreaming, on the moon... dying because there is no water... the violence of pain but still peace and beauty. beautiful lonely last moments. |

When I listen to Come to daddy I think of this abandoned city, rubbush everywhere. Then these little kids come in from out of nowhere, their faces looking like rdj's, trashing the town. Then this alien like figure coming out of a tv screen screaming at this old lady. You know, the part in the song when you hear all the screaming, and then it just fades out at the end. All of this ofcourse in black and white. |

" That's a really nice interpretation :) I just think of a blizzard really....perhaps through all the snow you can make out cosy, small house, with the lights on and a fire. You can't see inside, but you can bet that's what's happening. I actually get new stuff all the time with that one. |

autechre - cfern - a ride downwards at a 45º angle on a conveyor belt on an alien planet, starting in the sky, going thru the floura on the surface and then continuing thru a hole in the surface to underground caves. there's different creatures underground making noises than those on the surface, in the trees and sky, all making strange noises. |

The walls are lined with huge tubes where only a couple of seams once in a while reveal the scale of the whole thing. |

lets try a reply one year later: and this is the truth here, i dont really 'see' anything, i feel a lot, ie this song makes me feel this this song makes feel that, but as for the visual aspect, i dont really get a visual from music, more like a mode of feeling, the feeling might take me to a visual, such as afx's fingerbib, makes me feel a kind of special innocent feeling, like warm tingly youthful feeling, but then i may flash to remembered images of when i was a child - it is like this with all music for me. |
