clouddead fuckin rules, they only have 1 album anyways, they
have some vinyl only stuff but other than that only 1 cd and
I think theres a peel session floating around too.

clouddead IS NOT on anticon, its on mush records but all 3
people on it(odd nosdam, why? and dose one are apart of
anticon)

even i recognize the difference between anticon and
cLOUDDEAD... anticon really is "annoying wannabe pretentious
whiteboy shh" as theo put it, but cLOUDDEAD's pretty awesome
if you just don't think of it as hip-hop. most of it really
isn't, except in name. i mean... i've heard radiohead songs
that are more hip-hop than a lot of the cLOUDDEAD i've heard
(and side projects).

find much in the way of redeeming qualities and i listen to
a wiiide range of music

i'd say that almost all the music on cLOUDDEAD has somewhat
of a hip-hop element to it... you can clearly hear the
hip-hop background, but i agree, this is not what i label
hip-hop. it's just cLOUDDEAD.

for anyone who's often dissapointed by live "hip-hop",
please don't miss a chance to see cD or themselves. some
truly incredible stuff. among the most powerful live
performances i've ever seen. the whole crew is great, live
electronics, but specifically doseone really has the
performer-audience resonance thing down. music's roots in
shamanism comes through quite clearly at their shows. cD
live is even quite danceable, if you could believe. much
different tone than the studio biz.

i think your comment is sort of pretentious. it's just
music that you don't like.

I've actually never listened to them .. I just noted their
connection with a redhead fatboy that looks like he writes
code for a living from MAINE (listen, I know it's an
artform, and is therefore "universal" - however one wants to
justify it.. but come on.. let's put some limits on this..
if you're from maine, it's best to move before becoming a
rapper [on another parenthetic tangential note .. a kid that
lived down the hall from me last year had an old demo of his
that began w/ him saying "this is some brooklyn shit"
BROOKLYN he said.. fatass redhead computer
geek from MAINE claiming brooklyn.. tsk tsk tsk])
anyway... where was I.. oh right.. clouddead.. I haven't
listened to them yet.. and I'm just turned off by the whole
soft, forced-sense-of-conflict and experimentalism of
anticon-esque hip-hop.. it's liek these kids are trying to
be more expressive w/ rap, which is good.. and as a way of
doing this distance the production and lyrical content as
far as possible from the fabolouses and the nellys of the
industry.. but at the same time the 'hardness' and bravado
that comes w/ the territory of having the 'rapper' label
hasn't been shed in their minds yet.. it's like they feel
they still have to inflect a certain way and carry a certain
attitude w/ their rapping.. which sortof defeats the initial
purpose of their mission as artists.. I don't know.. it just
seems all very fake, self-conscious and laughable to me..

cLOUDDEAD are excellent. whoever above that was slating
anticon, (theo?), is completely missing the point and
allowing prejudice to blank out a world of music that is
both very, very clever and extremely musical.

i'd have to agree with regarding most of anticon, i listen
to very little fromt the label, but there is some genuine
good music that isn't pretentious coming from some of those
artists. and i think cD is not so heavy with the bullshit
you get from certain releases by sole and friends.

in other words the 'anticon' element that people dislike
shouldn't be presumed to be the rule for all artists
affiliated with the label.

I think I understand why people find anticon
pretentious....in fact I agree with them in a way....on the
other hand, those white kids are trying to do something
different, which is always interesting, even if their music
is not that good....about cLOUDEAD, I dont really like what
they do, but once again it was an interesting attempt...most
journalists didnt know how to label the record when it came
out, which is often a good sign too..

I love the clouddead album. it's pretty weird, but they seem
too concerned with making music to come off as pretentious.
other anticon-related releases might be a different story,
however.
