Draft 7.30 = Confield

offline CORTEX from Canada on 2003-02-07 17:30 [#00545707]

finally ive listened to the album, and it struck me how
much similar both albums are. many tracks really sound like
tracks off confield. cant remember the tracknames, but some
of them remembered me cfern, sim gishel, bine. anyone know
if the draft 7.30 material was composed at the same time as
confield?

imo, draft is a catchier confield.

(oh yeah, and sorry for yet another draft topic...)

depends on why you hated confield. i find draft is more
catchier, takes less time to getting used to, so there's
still hope!

i agree... draft is, to me at least, kind of like confield
done right... sorry gang, i just didnt think too much of a
majority of that album (although cfern, eidetic casein, and
VI scose poise were great). it kind of sounds like lp5 mixed
with confield with some tri rep thrown in for good measure.
but no description is going to suit it, you just gotta hear
it.

So far, it's just another Confield to me... the melodies
don't seem any more or less noticeable.

But this is Autechre, so I have to give it time. But I don't
see why it's less challenging than Confield.

The third track (6IE.CR) fucking blows me away, though.

I think Autechre might have peaked creatively, where the
hell can they go next? No way is THIS a step up. Not a step
BACK by any means... maybe sideways.

Ive been saying this for awhile...

everyone yelled at me for it...

finally, people who agree!

i didnt meant to sound like draft doesnt impress me, or that
i dont like it. i really do so far!

im just a little surprised i didnt read anyone mentioning
that a lot of the tracks on it resemble confield.
strikingly.

oh, yeah i agree, they do... theres even a little gantz graf
in there, less abrassive of course. i think its great
because to me, it sounds like a time capsule "here's where
we've been, here's where we're going" kind of thing.

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-02-07 19:21 [#00545827]

Yeah, I mean, I really like Draft 7.30, and Ill definatly
buy it...

but its just that people where all like "its gonna be so
amazing! TOTALLY new style! Autechre is not predictable! It
has hip hop, in it, its their most accessable, it has great
melodies"

That was all a bunch of crap.

And people are still saying it, even after hearing it. "Its
so different!" etc etc.

No, its really not. I mean, it really truely is Confield
Part 2.

Oh man, I am not on this train...

I think it is NOTHING like confield...Confield was VERY DARK
and POINTY as to where Draft is a little more ROUNDED OFF
and GREYISH...

Anyone kinda get that...I like it alot...more and more
everyday.

offline tibbar from harrisburg, pa (United States) on 2003-02-07 19:24 [#00545830]
Points: 10513 Status: Lurker

um, but there ARE hip-hop beats and i think the melodies ARE
amazing... very well constructed. simple AND complex, a nice
combo. plus, i find it very unpredictable... when i listened
to it the first time i really didnt know where it was going
from one track to the next, and even IN each track. and i
think the accesible thing is just a comparitive statement,
compared to gantz graf, sure its accesible... is it gonna be
on trl, no.

yeah, but all of their work has melodies and hip hop
influences

this was no push from that.

when I read it, it made it seem like it was goin to be much
more pronounced.

you dont think the "unh-unh" clubbin-type funk was more
pronounced? im not saying youre wrong, maybe i just hear it
more clearly on this one than i have before.

Yeah when news about the album came out and it was predicted
to SURPASS Confield, well I just wasnt havin it.

There is NO WAY Ae could ever reproduce anything like
Confield, that was at such a unique and ear shattering album
those guys put together. I just couldnt imagine even THEY
couldnt record something that dark now...Different time if
thier loves, different moods and outlooks as you grow and
create....

Draft is fucking awsome though.
3 and 6 are my faves so far

i think i agree with what youre saying. but it's strange to
see almost everyone liking it. probably because confield
softened the blow, because when confield was released, ouch!

Its really not much different, but since people loved
confeild after awhile, there is no adjustment time for this
one... youre already prepared

I see the similarity between the two, of course, but I
really don't think they sound like two sides of a coin or
cut from the same mold. I didn't really find Confield to be
particularly difficult to enjoy or "get into the groove of",
but this record is more accessible. Oddly enough it may
also be more interesting...

Really, I look forward to hearing it on CD. I'll listen a
couple of times on a legitimate copy and see if it changes
me any. Not really sure right now--I can see me loving this
release or hating it, but right now it's just striking me as
a very average record.

1. no, it dosen't sound like Confield.

2. of course this is the next logical step 'up'.

3. 'Surripere' is my favorite at the moment, because its
very emotional, coming in the same time Parhelic Triangle
did on Confield, also my favorite track on the previous
album.

4. its great.

Yeah - I don't know about you folks but Draft is wildly more
accessible IMO. I can understand the comparisons to
Confield but Draft is more beat driven, more fist pumpin',
more ass-kicking Ae.

Yah, I think it's an average record. It sounds like
Autechre, but I'd say it's on par with just about everything
else. It's not going to be the crux of their career, so
don't get your hopes up.

anyway draft7.30 is really near to Confield imo and distant
from Gantz Graf.
I thought Ae make something few different with this new
album.

xylin room, surripere, theme of sudden roundabout
(especially) and reniform pulse are highly reminiscent of
confield.

in fact, i could see the album get bad reviews for this.

draft's certainly not a leap forward but it rocks
altogether. it's unfair to judge the album based on previous
albums.
