can anyone recommend to me any modern poets that are
amazing and not necessarily run-o'-the-mill....(i.e.
cummings or plath)?

read Beckett.

his short dramatic works.

very poetic, beautiful use of words and rhythm.

don't have such a close-minded view of what poetry is and
what it is not.

drama and poetry are very close to each other. don't knock
either.

to say that seems really silly to me.

okay, fine. I won't comment on your poetry again, if you
can't take the criticism.

i mean, it is poetry, but it's also live and very
dialogue-ish. i enjoy octopus dancer.

also, more of these on-edge folks:

oetic

got to look around of course, but there is some truly raw
energy in there.

'Smell that!" he said, suddenly
extending the clenched fist.

And each enjoyed the privilege
of a smell at the fist of power.
