I realize I'm a little late on the scene.. Finally picked
this up and listened to it for the first time the other day.

It's the best thing I've ever heard Godspeed do and the best
thing I've heard all year. Pitchfork truly is a
motherfucker - They've got a few prongs poking in the wrong
place.

i'm also in the small party of those who think it's the best
thing they've done.

i blame the production.

Be sure to get right up front. I saw them in Bradford
earlier in the year, the venue was a theatre and they were
totally awesome. They let the crowd get right up to the
stage, no barriers, no security. I was literally within
touching distance of Efrim (swiped his setlist!)

Some of them hang around and talk to you afterwards too :)

don't like uxo half as much as srfnzk, lvsfcath or
f#a#oo.... that pitchfork review was in parts spot on i
thought. Perhaps i can't get into it as easy cos it's quite
a departure from the previous records... love the last two
minutes of the last track though.

yeah MF-redeemer is quite cool shit.
I didn't used to like the record, but i was talking about it
with somebody, and i like it lots more now.

I think that's a continuation of their previous work -
nothing new ; nothing bad. I just find a little boring the
way they build their songs with the same architecture over
and over - for me it's quite like straight ambiant music
since I only pay attention to random bits of the songs.

yo danbrusca i saw godspeed at bradford too...cool venue,
nice acoustics in ther3 and stuff. was brilliant when they
played lysflath track 1 first, love that first 6/7 minutes.
remembered them playing rocket falls there as well...fucking
amazing the way that builds at first (may fave on yanqui).
theyre going to announce some european dates soonish i
think..hope they come up north again in the uk. fingers
x'd.

the shout of 'hotel california' before the encore didn't go
down very well did it! that would have been the strangest
thing to see though!

best gig ive been to...not been to too many, being only
young an all...even better than super furries and they were
well good..the techno thing for 20mins at the end ruled
there.

just wondering, how long do they usually play for, and do
they use samples (like in bbf3)?

im seeing em in march, never seen em before, how big is the
crowd usually? i hope theyres not a lot of smoke, cant stand
all the smoke in these small venues.

oh and yanqui uxo is excellent, i still like slow riot best
though, then its kind of all the other albums tied for a
close second.

didnt godspeed used to only play in churches? they should
only do that.

offline hannibal from United Kingdom on 2002-12-29 11:42 [#00494438]

yeah they used the vocal thing from bbf3 when they played
bradford. i think they played chris morris' 'bushwhacked'
speech ahem rearrangement at some gigs fairly recently.
there were quite a number of people there. it wasn't sold
out or anything though. cheers for the setlist dan. enjoy
the show machine, i hope they play here nxt year.

yanqui is their most accomplished album to date imo. i met
a guy who used to open for them, he said they gave the best
shows he's seen.

anyone can point me out to some tour dates?

distorted them out of recognition

i truly love the new album.

'...antennas to heaven' is also just as excellent but yanqui
is very different to anything they've ever done. some people
complain how the structures are all the same but hey! - they
are not! a lot of different moods and atmospheres, i love
it.

i've also got some memories and images tied up with the
record which makes it even more special to me.

i don't think they're the autographing type.. they're pretty
anti-stardom (and definitely anti-materalism), but who
knows?

i got efrim's 2 email addresses; i emailed him once in the

political emails, not anything about his band. what a dork.
