The personal memex was one of the famous "8 goals of
computing", I forget who they're by, but it's a famous
computing journal. Basically, once these 8 things are done,
there is no further need for advancement in computing.

The one that interest me most is the personal memex. In
short, this device would record *everything* for a person-
sound, video, smell and eventually perhaps taste and touch
too. This could be recalled instantly at any time by the
user, perhaps years later. It's akin to being able to relive
memories. It has to be portable.

One of the coolest applications of this IMO would be
sampling. At least 5 times a day I hear a noise or sound
that I would love to sample... this would do that. Imagine
being able to replay any sound from your life at 96,000+
quality. You could recall gigs- tracks of the radio/from a
club. Incredible. I want one NOW!

also kind of creepy.. in general, our personalities hang
from our memories.. if it would be able to retain every
experience you ever had.. mm..

Yes one of the most detailed and most discussed bits of the
paper related to the ethical/existensial considrations
linked to its use. Should a family inhereit it when you die?
Should they be usable in court? Should people be allowed to
sell them? etc.
