ABERDEEN (Norway/UK 2001)

Great movie!
Stellan Skarsgård plays the alchoholist father to Kajsa
(Jane Headley) , they travel from norway (stellan is a oil
rig worker just as in Breaking The Waves here to) to
aberdeen to visit the mother who is dying of cancer.
It's a road movie and not a pretty one.
The drunk father pukes and pee his pants etc and constantly
gets into trouble.
The messed up daughter who is a successfull buisness woman
on the outside has both emotional and cocain problems.
Naked realism and incredible performances from the brilliant
actors ,Stellan for example is drunk in 95% of the movie.
In all the shit there is some warmth betwen the two.
To quote the mother "Ugly can be pretty too"

Directed by norwegian Hans Petter Moland who also made
excelent Zero Kelvin (also staring Stellan)
My new favorite director!

I highly recomend it! It gets five (7\) out of five
possible! =)

(7\) (7\) (7\) (7\) (7\)

It is actualy! , you would think this kind of realism would
be depressing to watch but its very fashinating and there
are some funny parts.

I'll look out for it. I do like "real" films that aren't
just an exersize in moneymaking.

Sido is right.

it's a very good movie, with Stellan Skarsgård at his best.
Amazing actor.

Yup! my favorite actor!
And im not just saying that because he is swedish, he truly
is an amazing actor! =)

Heard rumors that he will be in the new Excorsist movie ,
its a prequel and he will be playing the priest when he was
younger and first encountered satan.
I wish he wouldn't do more hollywood crap...but Excorsist is
alright i guess...or i hope so.

:)

Stellan is cool as fuck. there are a few great nordic
actors, have you seen Bjorn Sundquist (norwegian)? Top
actor! Kim Bodnia is brilliant too....

yeah, i heard Stellan is playing in the prequel...it was
supposed to be Liam Neeson but that didn't turn out..
hope it'll be an more than ok....

Yeah Kim Bodnia is hardcore!
Looking forward to that new action comedy (don't remember
the name) saw a review on a movie show and it looks crazy!

Bjorn Sundquist , the name didn't ring a bell so i did a
google search and it turns out he is the big bald scientist
Holm in Zero Kelvin =)
What else has he done? Anything you recomend?

Bjørn Sundquist has played in "Amatørene" and "Dykket". I
recommend both of them!!

i don't know why i like him so much, but i think it's his
dialect. I'm from northern Norway and he's too. He swears a
lot, i swear a lot. And his acting is razorsharp!

i'll have to check Aberdeen out.

You guys are so right about Stellan Skarsgård, he's an
amazing actor. He's great in Insomnia(Norwegian version),
which is one of my favorite movies.

As a resident of Aberdeen, I can only say that any film
featuring this disgusting granite city is probably bleak and
depressing. I can only thank Allah that I shall be leaving
it soon (unless it kills me)

i thought CUBE was pretty interesting and original. i was
never bored, and had no idea what the end would bring.

it's not a fantastic movie but it's entertaining and never
boring. IMO

i share that opinion about cube, but the thing is when you
see movies like-for example aberdeen, cube really isnt that
good
but its not boring neither

I liked Cube alot... up on until they part where everything
was explained... :-/ Hm... they should have kept it a
mystery what the cube actually was.

Hans Petter Moland is now directing a movie called
"Beautiful Country".
Casting includes Nick Nolte and Tim Roth.
Should be interesting =)
Story takes place in vietnam and usa i think , its about
some boy called Binh finding his father ? (i read from some
norwegian site so i didn't get it all)
Another amazing road movie like Aberdeen ? I hope so!!
Hans Petter Moland is soo talented!

a mystery?
no they should always explain something, or give some kind
of clues about it...
But sure, they could have gone with a better story...
