When do thoughts become voices in the head ?

When you can hear them without any effort to think of the
speech. I used to hear noises and voices. They just happen
y'know.

Thats ok then.

Imagine going to the doctor and informing him that voices
are in the head when they are infact simply thoughts.

When in a shop for example you may want oranges but someone
in the head informs you of the lovely taste of juicy apples.
What is the difference between this and thoughts.

Anyway, how are you doing I have not been on the board for a
while.

Later

teeth

It mostly didn't make any sense. Like someone would sharply
say 'Spikee!' or whatever and I'd swear there was someone
next to me but I'd be all alone. I mostly got random sounds
at night also.

I see what your saying tho ^^

I've only had voices just as I'm going off to sleep. Like
snippets of conversation between 2 other people. Very
similair to when you're walking around and just catch a few
words from someone. Never anything directed at me...

Vladimir Nabokov describes it in his autobiography as his
brain "tuning in" mid-point to a parallel thought in his
unconcious mind.

Nah, it's never scary. It's usually just as I'm going off to
sleep and I only remeber it if I "wake up" for some reason.
I suppose it's something to do with the brain slowing
down/whatever it does when you sleep... it's only happened a
few times.

I knew a girl who was an alcoholic who had "proper" voices.
One of the signs that you have a serious drink
problem is accusatory voices in your head. It's meant to be
your self loathing manifesting itself or something.

hmh.

i would be really afraid of that. i am generally afraid when
it comes to sleep or dreaming.

Do you realise they're dreams and can you force yourself to
wake up?

I used to do that. I'd hear this low hum when the bad things
came then think 'Time to wake up'

yes but the dream usually goes on after that (if i fall back
to sleep quckly, like in 5 minutes of waking up)

I used to kill myself (jumping off things, running into
walls) as a technique for waking up. My dad joked that one
day I really would get attacked or something and whoever it
was would be really confused at me trying to kill myself
wake up...

thats weird. i have absolutely no control in my dreams and
can never wake myself...theres no thought to.

and yes i too have experienced these short 'voice snipits'
when im about to go to sleep. i'll hear these really cool
sounds too. sometimes the sound clips will go on for like
10...but i have to concentrate on them and keep myself in a
sleepy state so i don't wake up...cause once i do it goes
away in a flash. voice snipits dont last long. ive heard
normal voices and weird scary ones...inaudiable (sp?) words
everytime.

I sometimes get this thing when I am falling asleep where I
hear sounds in my head, just strange sounds like "BZZT!" or
something, sometimes sounding like the music I have been
listening to in the day. It is as though I can actually hear
them in the same way that I hear real sounds. The same as
what Amonbrune said basically. Does anyone know what causes
this?
