I take offence.
Jeff Mills
Richie Hawtin
Dave Clarke
Derrick May
Slam
Peter Ford
Terence Fixmer
DJ Hell....
The defence rests.

This makes more sense. Techno is techno and shit is shit. By
the... reflexive property I think.

One time someone mentioned a simile of repetitive techno
sounding like a giant stapler going up and down and it
seemed even lamer ever since.

On the subject of staplers....

The Stationary shop in town has been there for ages...

Seriously....what's wrong with a good bit of mindless techno
every so often?...repetative drumming/rhythms have played a
huge part in human culture & development; in many ways,
Techno is just a contination of that....

simple is not always stupid...

i was in opposition of the repetitive nature of a lot of
dance music for quite some time. I then started exploring
the possibility of making it. There are intricacies and
subtleties in it that I had not expected to encounter,
especially in production and transition. A lot of techno
seems to be validated by what precedes and follows it in a
particular track or mix, and now holds a large amount of
credibility for me.

The hypnotic nature of really good dance music is hard for
me to disagree with. Even the most repetitive OOM TISK OOM
TISK can be enthralling and enjoyable.

flea: you listened to speedy J 's new one? I saw it in
borders, but didn't have time to listen to it .. :(

offline wayout from the street of crocodiles on 2002-08-19 07:11 [#00355391]
Points: 2849 Status: Lurker

yeah..you cant discount techno...about half of aphex's
releases could be classified as techno...

i have speedy j's loudboxer, korben..its pretty good.. its
basically hard, driving techno, and all the tracks are mixed
together, like a dj mix..

and btw...what is that thing in your avatar?

offline Clic on 2002-08-19 07:11 [#00355392]
Points: 5232 Status: Regular

I don't mind repetative beats at all. I like the ones that
slowly morph as the track progresses, but keep the basic
idea in tact.

I just don't care for the way house music or things of the
like sound. To clubby, if that makes any sense.

Loudboxer is a step backwards korben..more straight out
techno..big and reverbating but a bit straight forward..by
no means a worthy follow up to Pure Energy and definetly not
to A Shocking Hobby...

And you were asking about Herbert..I dont own any but I like
whatever I hear..Bodily Functions I have only heard on the
sound boothssounds delicate glitchy and beautiful..if you
have got it I want it:)

techno is like this:

*moves calf adjacent perpendicular to gravity and rotates
clockwise

and non-techno is like this:

*takes off hat and throws it five snarfs

I hope this explains everything more clearishly

I have bodily functions too. It is beautiful, although it's
closer to house than to tekkkno.

thanx wayout and flea for the goss on speedy j.

yeah, i'm quite curious about this herbert business, all the
descriptions i've read/heard are quite lovely .. meho - what
kinda house? Is it the DE9 type minimal house, is it more in
your face ??

Well, it is not exactly d9 type of thing. D9 is more techno,
IMO. This one's got much more, er, soul, as it has Danny
Sicilliano singing on almost every track, and a lot of jazz
timbres and chords and beneath all that glitchy percussion
'n things. Hey, I can send it over, if you want.

offline korben dallas from nz on 2002-08-19 11:08 [#00355531]

Yeah actually that'd immensely cool!!! .. um - more s_c
-ish? .. i though DE9 was a bit of a long shot - but its
also beautiful album imo :)

Umm, as I told you in that email, I haven't heard the new
s_c yet. But, anyway, my first idea is "this is how
portishead's take on house would sound".

no I meant Head On, Raw digits can't be called house by any
stretch .. :)

But portishead doing house sounds promising ..

cool dude - i'm back to finishing this assignment,
procrastinated long enough now! catch ya
