just a second ago my ghetto brother was watching dismissed
on MTV and it started playing "on", wtf. dont they need to
ask for permission to use songs? come on, would RDJ really
let MTV use one of his songs in a shitty dateing show?

well... if im correct... it works like this...

if its in an ad, or a movie, permission must be gotten.

But when shows like play it in the background, permission is
not needed, however, they still must pay for using the
song.

There is a whole organization that listens to music on tv
and radio, and makes sure people are paying for it.

The people that do these shows usually have to make lists
and report to this board, paying the money

if they dont, then these people hunt them down

permission to use songs on tv shows?

Don't they pay general fee's to certain companies (different
in every country, buma/stemra in Holland)

And the companies are linked with eachother in the world. If
an artist is a member of the particular company (has a
subscription ,yearly based price) he gets the collected
royalties.

? i'm not sure ,if this also counts for use in tv-shows

If I was RDJ, I'd allow all my songs to be played anywhere,
by anybody. Money money money... not like he's sacrificing
any artistic merit. Anybody would do the same thing if
someone offered you the REALLY big bucks to let your music
be used. Exposure (more record sales) AND cash up front,
sweet deal.

huh!?!?!? "lets put this cool song on our show to
make us look cool" Do u really think that yeah ON is so
fucking cool lets put this on our show so it can make us so
cool? ?

Are u that naive? I mean I think they put in in their show
because it was a nice little melody and good for a little
interlude "what a fuck lets take this tune it has a good
melody". Aphex Twin does NOT for a fact have that "COOL"
factor that u think it have ;)

I know that for a fact, I been called "fucking nerd" fo
listening to AFX nah mean..

If you name drop someone like Aphex, you tap into the
underground market somewhat... I'm sure they've got lots of
mainstream crap on those shows too.

Aphex is moderately popular... I'm sure it got the attention
of all the ''bastard elitists'' like ourselves. ;-) It's
kind of HIP to be a ''fucking nerd'', too... there's a lot
of nerds out there!

he's respected as an artist between the edges of musical art
proportions. Though I think sometimes people over-rate him
for the wrong reasons.

Not because they understand/like/find it interesting but
because they smoked to much hash.

like I have
