I am going for a music major and multimeadia for my minor
at UCI. There are a lot of music makers on this board. I was
wondering how many of you out there are trying to have
somewhat of a career in some kind of music making....ie....
film.... tv....games...etc. How long have you been making
music....... and what kind of equipment (hardware/software)
do you regularly use..... and do any of you play any
instruments? Just curious

I just do it to play around, not serious as in a career. I
just use my computer (mostly Fruity Loops), I can't play any
instruments, and I've been doing it for a few months.

I'd love to write soundtracks for movies.

I go to the Berklee College Of Music. Its in boston, and
covers all music types. You can learn jazz, classical, pop,
electronic, film scoring, producing, even music therapy
etc.

Im doin a duel major in Composition and Synthesis.

I played drums for 4 years, then i sold them to buy various
peices of equipment, which i used until this last year. Ive
been writting music for the past 5 years. 3 years of theory
classes. I have since puicked u p the bass, which ive played
for 3 years now, and is my principle instrument at berklee.

Ideally id like to make music and release, and live off
that... but of course that probably wont happen... seeing as
the music i write isnt the kind of music you get big bucks
for.

I have several options. I could continue to grad school and
get a doctorate in Composition, and i could teach...

or i could work as an audio enginner for a label etc.

Or i could be a producer.

There are many options really... and in music, you just
gotta go with what comes your way, since its so hard to plan
the future.

I think it would be nice to get a doctorate, teach, and
write/release/preform my stuff on my own time.

:)
btw... all my current tracks are done on Reason 1.0.

Im currently in the process of selling all my old hardware,
and im goin for a soft setup. Logic, Reason 2, Csound, and
an Audio Interface (the only hardware piece)

Sounds like you got your act together Zeus...

I mainly use Reason 1.0 as well... untill the recent
upgrade...which rocks it! And when I not using software
(Logic...Peak..Reason..SoundEdit..Reaktor)... I mainly
sequence all my hardware and everything through my
KorgMS2000...or with my EM-1. I like the old skool sequencer
in my MS2000. Most of my hardware consists of retro gear....
or new gear trying to be retro. I have a classical music
background.... and mainly play piano and the sax. And have
been making electronic music for roughly 6 years....
I havent gotten up the nerve to post anything online
yet..... but I am engenieering a website where I will be
able to sell my first album for a reasonable price... 8 or 9
bucks for a 70 min album.... but I am sending demos to
rephlex and mu in the mean time.... with high hopes

when I have something online.. I will be sure to post a link
here

your dad dissed you mylittlesister....ouch

No problem afxNUMB.... I dont really like discussions where
it leads to one person agianst the whole board.... and some
people here are not humble enough to accept other peoples
ideals and just let it go.... it makes me upset to see
that.... seems arguments like that can get very personal on
BBS's, but especially here.... I just think its nice to have
someone to be humble enough to act unbiased as possible to
even out the discussion........ at least that is what I try
to do

i make tracks in FL
at http://orangedust.hackmode.org

i have been doing it for 5 or 6 years

signed on local label 8 bit recordings
also on dleet's label, kaliscope
and on tefosav

no major stuff.

it's virtually impossible (well REALLY REALLY difficult) to
live off music, esp if you make braindance.
i aim to continue my day job and make music in my spare time
coz it's fun.

i also liek long walks on the beach, spring mornings and
picnics in parks.

lol soz.

I write with Fruity Loops. I've been doing that for
probably 4 months or so.

I play guitar. I have a Mexican Fender Strat and a Marshall
half stack and a few pedals. I've played for 8 years.

I play bass guitar as well. I have a shitpiece Squier bass
and a Peavey combo. I've been playing bass for about 1.5
years.
