How do I start remixing ?

Wizards Teeth from Inside A Palace Made For Bees on 2001-03-27 09:29 [#00001612]

Hello can someone please help ?

I would be interested in creating a remix.

How does one go about taking a track and separating it into
its individual elements ?

Thanks

I think the software Recycle makes it possible to cut a
track into it's different pieces, but I don't use the
program myself, so I don't know much about it.

Another way is to record the parts of a track you want to
use for the remix in WAV and mix those parts in Cubasis for
example.

Thanks Wizard Mac

I found (but have not yet used) a programme that allows for
lyrics to be extracted from a tune. This sounds quite a
handy tool is it works. It was listed on the Hitsquad site.

The professionals get the original multitrack master tapes
of the tune they're remixing. Not an option for us, so we
have to improvise. ReCycle chops up a short sample (e.g. a
drum loop) into its constituent beats, though you still have
to find a drum loop with no other sounds played at the same
time. It doesn't do anything you couldn't do by hand with a
wave editor, but it does it much more quickly.
The big problem is getting rid of unwanted sounds. The vocal
canceller you found will probably just remove anything
panned centrally - useful, but not a complete solution. You
can also use filters and EQ to remove some sounds.
Basically, you have to find bits of the tune where only one
instrument is playing, or cheat and try to recreate some of
the sounds.

i did a kind of remix of vic acid by squarepusher. What i
did was get a sample of it and put it througth recycle. then
i chopped out liek all teh drums i could. Then i seuqnced
them into a diffrent beat. it soudned well weird cause you
had teh tune in teh background all cut up into loads of
difffrent pieces. i enjoyed it greatly.
