i've never heard this album in its entirety but it has a
reputation as being one of the definitive britpop albums,
some even say it's a brilliant piece of music. who here
agrees (please, only people who have actually heard the
album) and should i get it? i think the singles off this
album are excellent.

It's good, I don't listen to it now but I used to love this
album, don't really think too highly of oasis anymore but
it's a classic album and you should get it

It's my favourite Oasis album... but then, I only like that
one and their first one.

i love this CD....it's been a while since i listened, but as
mentioned previously the songs remind me of fun/happy times.

it's definately a good album....even if you're not an oasis
fan. i can't say i am....liam and his brother are egotisical
bastards and it's a real turn off...plus the stuff after
this album sounded like shite IMO =0)

I LOVE that album... great stuff, and I don't like admitting
that... I dislike that band, and the assholes that comprise
it.

Great album, gave them a big head... bigger than the Beatles
my pale white ass.

I would say that Champagne Supernova wasn't nearly the best
song on that album. . . But's that just me: I'd rather
listen to Don't Look Back In Anger and others.

second best oasis album..

the best being their firts: "definately maybe".

that still doesn't mean it's something special... it's ok.

i used to be a big fan of oasis... they bored me

"definitive britpop" It used to be Indy, Britpop came from
no place. Oasis are main stream and dull. If you want REAL
Indy try 'Tiger' or 'Stony Sleep/Seraphin' anything like
Oasis is simply just music industry regulated wank. Very
dull.

Download 'Midmay' by 'Stony Sleep' and 'Race', 'On The Rose'
or 'Speak to me' by 'Tiger'

If you want real Indy you have to look behind the big record
labels.

It's a good album but certainly not groundbreaking. If you
lived in England through 94' to 97' you got engulfed by a
wave of good Britpop and Oasis where popular and mainstream.
It's like listening to the spice girls man. The amount of
good indy there that didn't get put around was shocking. If
you like Oasis chances are you would like real British indy
more. Don't submit to the record labels because if you
confirm to that standard you may as well listen to moby
rather then Aphex twin. Trust me, do some digging, It's
worth it.

And the best bands weren't even signed to labels ...

Oasis did start out on Creation Records before they were
swallowed by the Sony conglomerate.

I agree with Spikee Dragon on this one....

I mean, it's an *alright* album, but it's very dull. "Some
Might Say" was a good single, but then it's got utter dirge
on it like "She's Electric".

I would say that their first album was their only
half-decent one, and it was the second album where it all
started to go wrong.

A much better mainstream indie album from the same period
was Dog Man Star by Suede (known as The London Suede in the
US). Now that was an amazing album. Download some tracks
from it: The Wild Ones, New Generation, We Are the Pigs, and
you'll see. As far as I'm concerned, that was the best
mainstream British record of the early 90s.

They didn't start out on creation. Technically they started
out on HelterSkelter then Creation. I have some early Oasis
singles with HelterSkelter as the record label rather then
creation. I have shit like that and I'm not even a fan. But
really that is nit picking. Sorry. All is EMI regulated.

'Don't Look Back in Anger' is a great tune.

titsworth,

my brother swears by oasis. I think that the band is okay
until I see or hear Liam. my brother loves the album and
has subjected me to it much. right away I know he loves
roll with it/track2 and some might say/track7. I dig
hello/track 1, and hey now!/track5. the whole album is
really good if you like what you heard so far. the album
standing on the shoulder of giants is probably is my
favorite by oasis. it seems that with that record they
actually tried to get away from their standard sound.

listen to it anymore now

sheesh spikee i wasn't asking for recommendations on indie
rock, i think i got that one covered! i was asking about
this oasis album, don't take it so personally!

*sighs* I didn't take it personally but ok, I'll keep my maw
shut and decline from showing my opinion.

If you like the music well cool, I was just trying to tell
you about other groups you may like.

i appreciate the effort and i am always looking out for new
music to get into but in this specific case i wanted to
stick to the topic of this album... sorry, don't be
offended

as for not supporting major labels, i totally agree! i think
it's important to support the smaller labels and less
popular artists. that said, i don't own any oasis albums and
i want to buy this one. i'd buy it used so it's not like
soundscan would register a new copy of it being sold.

...and i thought everyone on this mb hated oasis!! ^^

my first favorite band. underneath the sky is one of my
favorite songs ever. :)

definitely maybe — their best album i know. almost
every track is a classic — i have a preference for
'rock'n'roll star', 'columbia', 'supersonic', 'slide away'.
:)

(what's the story) morning glory? — very good;
especially 'wonderwall', 'morning glory' and 'champagne
supernova' are great. some tracks are a little bit heavy
('roll with it'...) maybe, but still a very good album.

be here now — i used to have it in mp3, from what i
remember it was good but unequal. 'd'you know what i mean?',
'my big mouth', are great, 'don't go away' (which ressembles
to 'slide away') and 'fade in-out' are very good, 'magic
pie' and 'all around the world (reprise)' are heavy...

the masterplan — first album i heard from them, my
fav after definitely maybe. it's only a compilation
of b-sides, but i don't care. i love it.

standing on the shoulder of giants — 'gas panic' is
one of the best oasis songs ever, but the rest is a bit
deceiving...

i don't have heard all of heathen chemistry yet. 'the
hindu times' is very good, but i think they kinda lost it
since the shoulder of giants. not completely, but it's not
as good as it used to be.

I wouldn't buy it now.

Its one of those 'of an era' LPs .
But If U weren't in the UK c1996 you might still find it
fresh . I bought it ; & along with 'Definately maybe'
remains the best mainstream guitar pop of the last 10 years

i too thought everyone here would hate oasis!

this album IS great.
it and Definitely Maybe are my favourites from Oasis... ive
noticed that they tend to be everyone's favourites

Oasis were the first band i really really liked... ive been
sort of a closet fan for a long time now..... ive liked them
enough to buy all 4 albums +THe Masterplan

im not to fond of their newer stuff..... and their newEST
stuff is just plain bad imo (except for maybe one or two
songs)

needless to say i haven't actually listened to oasis in my
cd player for..... probably a couple of years
hearing their stuff brings back all kinds of memories...
*sniff*

...actually, im going to an oasis concert next weekend!
lets hope they stick to their older material.
