I have a few track's by him, ok but I don't go back to them much.
I'm not sure of the title (I'm sure someone here will know) but I do like the track that has the mental hospital video. Not bad video either.

Plastikman is fucking incredible.
Anyone who says otherwise just doesn't get minimal techno. I'm not saying that it's for everyone, but you can't discount it totally.
For beginners I would suggest:
Musik - One of the best albums to drive to. The most easily accessible of all his work. Yet totally amazing.
Consumed - A dark exploration of depression through minimal techno. Shows his range and how he can create a mood as well as any of his peers.
Richie Hawtin Concept 1 CD - This is a compilation of all the Concept 12"s. More for the head than for the heart, I consider this to be the finest mimimal techno produced to date.
In closing I will warn you, you may not like/get minimal techno but if you do Plastikman's a must.

i like plastikman. but then it all depends does it not?
"musik" is prolly the best one to start on?
or if you're d/l individual tracks, i consider "spastik", "gak", and "outbak" to be three sort of singles [dunno if they actually were or not? mm]
"Consume" is the pu also. although very minimal, ..
haven't got any of the concept stuff, maybe should look into that ..
and Richie Hawtin's - "DE9: Closer to the edit" is a must!!!

you can either go with plastikman (his songwriting work, more minimalistic and more abstract, but still rooted in house) or you can buy ritchie hawtin (his dj work, basically good house, really good house)...i have a friend (who is very into both) that says every time i put on autechre, "hey is this those guys that rip off plastikman?" this is of course not true...what he does not understand is that ritchie's music is rooted in house and breaks and autechre's is rooted in hip hop and ambient...but somehow it can be seen that plastikman and autechre sound alike...if you buy plastikman, go with concept, artifakts, sheet one, musik, or consumed...if you go with ritchie, get decks, effects, and 909; or DE9: closer to the edit...
thanks for your help...i mean attention

I like Plastikman a lot..a lot of it is very minimal..and trance inducing but (not in the cheesy trance music way no it's nothing like it)..it's brilliant use of negative space..you start haering things in between the beats and the echos that actually arent there..or maybe they are...recreational ingestation always enhances the expereience ;)..
the closest reference I can come to is a stipped down Polygon Window...

and I think his point of refernce is the stripped down Detroit Techno and not House (which is from Chicago and inherently busier more hyper kinetic with a lot more percussion lines)

Consumed is unfucking believable!!! He hasn't gone down the tubes. Stop whatever you're doing, smoke some weed, go and lie down with some headphones and listen to Consumed. I have never heard anything like it. It is the first album where the spaces between music become as important as the music itself.
You have to understand minimal techno to understand Plastikman. I have a friend with a degree in musical theory and sound engineering; apparently, Richie Hawtin (plastikman) makes music that is STACKED with musical theory (unbeknownst to me). She studied him and his music during her time in school and can't stop talking about him - I'm not disagreeing any time soon. THe man has made a number of albums using old synths like the TB-303 and 707, without sounding stale. He doesn't need fluffy sound-effects, or layer upon layer of goo. He strips his music down to the essentials and manages to make it hopelessly addictive in the process. If you don't like Plastikman, at least give him your respect for being a brilliant musician.
Go download Propllerhead's Rebirth program and make music as good as Plastikman. You would essentially be using the same gear. (minus some effects plug-ins)

Consumed is IT. Fucking incredible stuff. If you like Basic Channel and Oval and other minimal stuff, then you should find it easy to like him. He is absolutely incredible, his rhythms driving and his bass lines intense. Really, the epitome of minimal music.
