I used to drool over it when it was first
released...basically cause it had resonant filters on drums
sounds that you could alter...

Never got a go on one tho...and samples never really come
close to the on-board facilities of these advanced drum
machines...

Things like the RY30 & Rolands R8...that offer editting
stuff like humanise & grooves...

A lot of older drum machines don't offer the range of
editting found on those 2...

oh you meant that these have on-board editing facilities. ah
OK. :) I thought you were criticising it for using PCM.

yeah I just found out this weekend just how much realtime
control this thing offers. it really does rival expensive
instruments w/ lots of onboard knobs.

nah...not critising it...the RY30 is one of the best drum
machines out there...that realtime wheel thingy is a
brilliant addition...

I know one guy who use the RY30 for all his
sequencing...just because he's got so used to it & finds it
suits him far better than Cubase...

What is that spinny wheel used for?

basically for realtime control of various params...things
like pitch, filter & timing, I believe...

Can go a long way to making even the most repetative drum
track seem a lot more varied and lifelike...

the RY-30's awfully cheap. I got mine off eBay for $125,
incl. ROM card.
