Now, I know I should take some of my own medicine and not compare these 2 albums, but its only recently i've got into the boards.
I got geogaddi first without hearing anything and REALLY got into the album and I love it, how everytime you listen to it you spot another sound, and then it takes another few listens to work out what it is!
Anyway, I got MHTRTC about 4 weeks ago and its been exam time, so i've been doing some heavy music listening. Now, I was already into the album before all the exess listening to i've found that MHTRTC has been getting put into my cd player FAR more than geogaddi. I've been going to bed listening to MHTRTC on headphones and only as far as I can remember played geogaddi once.
I thought this may be interesting since i've been one of the few people to listen to them backwards so to speak, so i've been lessed biased in my opinions to the new stuff, but I really think geogaddi is not as good.

i agree heartily. geogaddi is still a great album. i don't really know why though MHTRTC is better. i suppose it has more 'hits' on i.e. it has aquarius, roygbiv, telephasic workshop and eagle of the mind (or whatever).
i don't think thats it though. i like the whole album more...dunno

Yeah, I would have to say MHTRTC is a little bit better. I mean I don't think there's a song on their I don't like.
Then again Geogaddi is really good too, 1969, Dawn Chorus, and You Could Feel the Sky are real gems.

to me, geogaddi has a more constant feeling and atmosphere to it. It creeps me the fuck out but its beautiful at the same time.
I dont have this with MHTRTC but i love that album too, especially because of roygbiv and aquarius.

for me its An Eagle in your mind, Sixtyten, roygbiv, rue the whirl, aquarius, pete standing alone, smokes quantity and happy cycling VS. Music is math, 1969, the beach at redpoint, gyroscope, and dawn chorus.
I wouldnt say the tracks are better on one or the other, but there are a lot more of the good ones on mhtrtc.

Music Has the Right to Children kicks Geogaddi's ass. Not to say Geogaddi isn't great, but I frankly think MHTRTC is their peak, they won't top it ever.

um, maybe its just me, but most BoC I find just boring, not very interesting. Although I prolly havent listened enough to them. I mean, I like some of their pieces. And their little melodies or whatever (like Beautiful house in country, and roygboiv). But any further than the idea that the music is just mellow, kind of atmosphereic texture and feeling, I can't really draw myself to be stimulated very much. But perhaps I havent given them a proper chance.
I enjoy Ae much better. Although it can be much of the same idea. Although I have to admit, their latest album release does test one's tolerance and patience in appreciating the "musical" nature of it. Which I do feel exists quite strongly. But is not doubt challenging. I dont know that I understand exactly that type of music yet. If you can call it that. Confield that is.

If you read the new Grooves, BoC talk about how when making Geo they were trying to sound like they did before MHTRTC, and it does, it's very raw and super subliminal, but if you listen to ABPOITC, it totally is a progression from
MHTRTC.
and as for BoC being boring, you're not listening hard enough!

yeah, Sixtyten is great... I used to think it was BoC's worst song for ages, but I like it a lot now... just took me a while to get into... The Colour of Fire is cool... I get this weird image of a stalker looking through some bushes at the kid he's stalking when I hear this song...

U know, not that my opinion matters to anyone...MHTRTC and Geogaddi are unique in different ways...Music was the first Boc album i bought, but the E.P. A beuatiful place out in the country is what hooked me...i know it just has variations on the songs Olson and stuff, but that's what really got me into BOC.
One thing i dislike about their music is sometimes its too short, i end up looping it in my editor and then reburning the tracks so they last longer...and then there are those tracks that u have to skip, like that Volcano thing on geogaddi, i hate that thing.
All in all BOC rules, and to each album there are up's and downs, and different styles. I'm soooooooo sick of seeing this debate up here. I like both, i like geogaddi better than MHTRTC, cuz the songs are a bit longer...but i like MHTRTC cuz the songs make logical sense and have a different flow from eachother
