O.o

My guess is that was something about how I shouldn't make a
topic about speaking Dutch. Or demanding it. No idea.

I meant like...You say something in Dutch then go, "This
means..." in English. If my great great aunt or great
grandmother was alive I could talk to them; they were fully
Dutch.

be sure to check out the word "geil" then, there's an
interesting difference in meaning with that word in dutch &
german ;-)

offline Frag from New Jersey (United States) on 2002-06-22 19:01 [#00280500]

Hehehehhee...I'll use my dictionaries for that one.

and nexus, yes it is. Except using them umlatus and stuff
german has is easier than double vowels.

offline Frag from New Jersey (United States) on 2002-06-22 19:02 [#00280501]

dutch: geil = voluptuous
germ: geil = horny

Hmmm...that's odd.

offline Nexus 6 from Netherlands, The on 2002-06-22 19:10 [#00280504]
Points: 3221 Status: Lurker

no

geil in dutch means: horny
geil in germ means: cool (or something in that direction)

:)

How exactly are you partly dutch? And have you ever been
here? Do you stick up for us dutchies when your fellow
americans talk like 'every dutchman is addicted to pot,
walks on wooden shoes and lives in a windmill that is
surrounded by tulips' ? Just wondering :P

indeed :-p It's always funny when I'm in Germany... and just
on the street and in restaurants you hear people saying:
"jaja, das ist immer geil" and stuff like that. ;-)

Well there are like no Dutch stereotypes that I can think of
(except clogs but who gives a damn) but yeah I'm a quarter
dutch, but it interests me the most...being half Irish;
there's not a strong concentration of gaelic speakers in the
world, or at least as much as Dutch speakers.

But yeah if anyone said shit I'd speak up for them. No, I've
never been there, but I would like to go there, and I do
have relatives there.

Yes, most Dutch people can guess what a german person is
saying because most words have similarities.

English is really popular here, especially children use a
lot of English words(like: cool, shit, games, levels, etc) I
think that's because of the internet and television. Older
(business)people use English words because they think it
makes them more interesting...

toll and geil r close but geil is much stronger but if u go
up to a german gal and say "Ich bin geil für deine Katze."
u'll either get laid or slapped.

My dad once told me that when he was growing up there was a
dutch girl he liked, so he asked his gramma how to say "Good
morning..." He then told me that apparently Good Morning is
pretty close to "What a bitch." Is this true at all? Is what
he said at all true or is he full of shit?

Just post a sentence here and I/we will translate it into
dutch :D

eXXample:
Imagine you are in Holland on vacation some day and you want
to say:
"I want to get laid by a horny goat and then I'd like some
milk."

The dutch translation would then be:

"Ik wil genaaid worden door een geile geit en daarna heb ik
wel zin in melk."

If you really have an urge to communicate with Dutch people,
it's absolutely vital to scream: "Jazeker, de hypotheker" at
them...

Try it, they'll love you for it!

That's what really sucks, when i go to Germany they expect
me to talk to them in German, so i do, seeing as i am in
their country...

But when the crapshooters come to Holland they expect us to
talk to them in German as wel... I went to Zeeland (South of
Holland) and when i went to a restaurant the menu was in
GERMAN... I think that's really weird.
