one of the guys off soulseek recommended this to me.....

any1 else heard / like this guy? i looked for samples on the
net, but as his tracks are like 21 mins long, it dosent
really give u an idea of what this guy is about!

also i found that aphex has apparently remixed one of his
songs..... its on soulseek

anyway is this 'signs' album of his any good then??!

it was probably that same guy that recommended it to me, I
downloaded pieces of about 3 tracks and it was pretty weak
stuff. Wayout's suggestion diagram of suburban chaos is a
better obscure one.

make weird stuff like merzbow or something. Nice animation
sido.

I've had a 192k rip of "Scope" for quite a while on my hard
drive, i've never gave it a full listen. Perhaps i'll do
that tonight and report tomorrow if this thread is still
hanging around.

damn, that was an ignorant-ass thing to say about asians.

btw, rawkus has sucked for the last few years - they're
terrible businessmen, fucking over their artists (there've
been so many classic songs and albums that have remained
unreleased because of label conflicts).. anyway that's why
company flow left rawkus, business differences, and prolly
why coflow broke up :(

"hoshi no koe" is a good album, hear it, it has almost
everything: childish melodies, experimental... uhmm...
noises and a little bit funny idm... it's different, i guess
this is the way a japanese dreams...

which half.

ive heard lots of takemura. over 20 things he's done im sure
(he's done a lot), and i can safely say he is a favorite of
mine, incredibly prollific.

one of his first albums under takemura (childs view) is
strictly just pop music, but then he can go ahead and make
"scope", "assembler" and "water's suite" and get really
experimental.

all in all, some of my favorites are:

animate
funfair (under the alias "childs view")
scope
child and magic
recursion ep

he also runs a label called "childisc" in japan, which has a
lot of great artists. my favorites are:

asao kikuchi - what must they be saying?
kiyoshi izum - orange sunshine
hyu - wild cards

plenty of releases to check out, though quite hard to find
(soulseek should have some)

worth looking into.

wmw, you're thinking of takeshi muto.

some nobukazu takemura is excellent. stylistically, he's
all over the map and you never really know what you'll get.

i recommend "funfair" under his child's view alias. he
mixes chopped up sounds and fractured melodies on some
tracks, one track with a massive breakbeat, all with his
experimental-crossed-with-pop sensibilities. plus an
excellent remake by dylan group.

i also like "scope," which is pretty much all experimental
cut up sounds and melodies, but all in all it works very
well. as with something like steve reich, you've got to be
prepared/in the mood to take it all in.

as for the remixes, look for his remix of yo la tengo (can't
remember the name of the track right now, and the disc is in
another room). it is positively transcendant.

"signs" is really an expanded single with some odds and
ends, i wouldn't recommend it. "hoshi no koe" is spotty,
some nice tracks but overall not his best work.
