I'm on the brink of exhanging my PS2 for a Gamecube.....

There is this shop in the UK called Electronic Boutique who
do part-exchanges, and I have about 17 PS2 to trade as
well.

Some of my favourite PS2 games are available/ will be
available on Gamecube, and the graphics are much better on
the machine....

What do you think?

Well I went to Electronic Boutique PS2 and games in hand to
do a deal - but didn't in the end!

1) I wasn't that impressed with the quality of the graphics
compared to the PS2 - it wasn't that big a difference to
warrent the expense.

2) The guy in the shop said he had both, and that the
graphics were pretty much the same.....

3) Finally, they offered me £100 for my PS2 (which isn't
that bad)....but I also had about 17 games, a multitap and 3
extra controllers and they said they'd give me £120 for
that!!!!! I told them to forget it. I had games like Final
Fantasy X, SSX tricky to name a few recent games of which
I'd paid at least £35-40 each for. So I told them to
forget....and left the shop.

At the end of the day, if I had traded in all my Sony stuff
for a Gamecube, I would've come home with the console, 2
controllers and maybe 3 games if I were
lucky........certainly not worth it. As I have said before I
will wait for the PS3, at least there will be a noticable
diifference between the two machines then! (I'd hope....)

.....anyway, I bought Spiderman for my PS2 - quite a good
game! So that's this weekends gameplay sorted!

BTW Cabbog: I wouldn't touch an XBOX with a barge pole -
Microsoft should realise they'll never be a success in the
games market. The sales of the machine are doing real
shitty, hence MS slashing the prices. They should stick to
what they do best - dominating the PC market place!!
Hehehehe

En garde!
The Xbox has been outselling the Gamecube in Japan(!) for
several weeks and just recently gained a strong foothold in
Europe. I'll admit that the first wave of games were
garbage(with the exception of Halo which is excellent) but
by the end of the year there will be some BRILLIANT products
out(Project Ego and Star Wars : Knights of the Old Republic
are two that come to mind). I suggest sifting through some
of the previews at any major console-gaming site...

nintendo seem to always deliver in the gamplay dept but I
wouldn't give up on the PS2 yet, with such games like Metal
Gear Solid2:SUBSTANCE on the way you'll be kicking yourself,
that's of you like MGS2 that is

The X-Box is most certaintly NOT outselling the Gamecube in
Japan, or anywhere else! It's dying!

And Chris... keep your PS2, buy a GC when Mario Sunshine
comes out in September

I've been playing on the PS2 this evening, with Final
Fantasy X, GTA3 and my new Spiderman - and it is so good!

I agree Jarworski - XBOX is living on borrowed time!

I can't believe what I almost did!

*smooths PS2 with tender care!*

As a Gamecube owner I suggest you SELL THAT SHIT, SELL IT
NOW. DONT LOOK AT IT, JUST SELL IT

Then we can talk about the games we've played, and talk
about the console itself cause it looks phat!

I had both. It was a tie for the better machine for me,
cause the Megadrive had the definitive console versions of
Sensible Soccer and PGA Tour Golf, plus it had Shinobi. SNES
had Super Mario 4, F-Zero and Super Mario Kart... hmmm, no I
think the SNES wins just cause of Mario Kart =oD

I still have my Chrono Trigger poster on my wall, put it up
there as SOON as I tore it out of the box on that magical
winter day in '95. Been up there since. I love it, it
inspires me. Every game should try to match it, but, alas,
it can never again happen.

Wars? its nice work man.

offline Jedi Chris on 2002-06-16 00:51 [#00268154]

My whole point here was, that considering the games I have
and that there isn't a major different in the machines, it
would not of been a worthwhile investment replacing a PS2
with a Gamecube.

I'm not knocking the machine by any means....I not
questioning the machines abilities - this was the right
decision to make!

Over with - lol!!!
Gamecube will NEVER have the same massive games range as
Playstation. Besides, Nintendo should have made the
Gamecube backwards compatible to play the N64 roms as well.
And a DVD player built in would've been nice!

Points: 11496 Status: Lurker | Followup to Jedi Chris: #00268166

Then again thats why it selling at the price it is! I
suppose Nintendo probably bargained on their loyal customers
simply hanging onto the N64 if they wanted to continue
playing the games.

And as to Microsofts XBOX, I know that plays DVDs but lets
face it, they've fucked up big time with that haven't they!
Hehehehehe

GC isn't that far behind. The third party releases are thick
and thin now. Besides, there's only three games on the PS2
that I'd ever want to play. The rest look abysmal.

I NEVER play my N64 anymore. The graphics are so murky it's
horrible. And I have three DVD players, so that was hardly
essential....

I think with games consoles, it's down to the particular
point in time, that you buy one. I bought the PS2 when it
first came out! No other console came close to it! Those
who are buying a console brand new today....i'd advise to
get a Gamecube (or an XBOX if I hated them)

Hey you dont know what youre talking about...youre still a
PS2 fan arent you? thats why you think GameCube cant get any
close to PS2 then it is already, you'll be more shocked then
you think.

The only reason I got a gamecube was because I wanted to
play games not haev to deal with high f- shit,I just wanted
to play games like Smash Bros or monkey ball.!!!

I love you gamecube

what about METRIOD for the GC, I've been able to resist the
GC so far (content with my PS2) but when that comes out
along with Zelda + Mario it's going to be hard to resist , I
thought it might be a shame that the GC version of metriod
is in 3d but they're also making a 2D version for Gameboy
advance!!!! yippeeee

I still remeber buying mags like CVG back in the days,.when
they reviewed C64 games and spektrum ones next 2 megadrive
etc.

Being a C64 owner myself ,I always drooled at the 16 bit
comp. screenshots.
Nowadays kids R spoiled with eyecandy,.seams like gameplay
has become a less important factor.

browsing through my ol' Zapp!64 collection always brings a
tear 2 my eye

other half is talking about buying a GameCube (altho I'd

days. Can anyone remember the 3D issue they put out with

of the aliens movie into a game, it all seemed so good back

Why's everyone spitting on the Xbox? Because it was made by
Microsoft? It's got much more horsepower than either the
PS2 or the Gamecube, the game lineup is looking fantastic,
built in broadband support and an 8 gigabyte hardrive making
it possible to actually patch or modify games(when's the
last time you did that on PS2?), not to mention the advanced
Nvidia Graphics Processor and financial backing from one of
the most prosperous companies in the universe ..

the ps2 dvd software bites.it can't play loads of dvds.
infact i know many ppl who had to get a seperate dvd player
after getting a ps2 due to the huge incompatibilty list.
also, the features are so shitty.

ps2 has the best games at the moment...but they are all
rentals...never really buy a next-gen game...they are all so
short/easy. but really fucking bad ass!
