Do you consider Pink Floyd's music electronic?

no, not really... I guess they did use electronics in their
music, but it was definitely rock...

Radiohead is a rock band, has his electronic sound, I guess
pink floyd is the same, just different times =)

I'm listening to Pink Floyd right now, Comfortably Numb!

I don't consider them electronic... it has SMALL elements of
it...

David Gilmour's voice makes me want to go gay! Purr!

They do have a keyboard player though...

And dont go saying "Just cause they have a keyboard player
doesnt mean they make electronic music!!"Because I know you
will...

ok,,, but if pink floyd were still together today, do you
think that their music might have progressed into
electronic?

offline Ctrl Alt Del from Ft. Worth (United States) on 2002-06-11 06:53 [#00259772]
Points: 2190 Status: Lurker

I think it would have some electroinic elements in it, so in
a word "yes"

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-06-11 06:55 [#00259777]

no they turned their backs on electronica with the wall
kinda

offline brendan ether from the beach (obx, NC) (United States) on 2002-06-11 06:55 [#00259779]

"Teachers! Leave them kids alone!!"

Classic.

On the Run is pretty electronic... well... PURE electronic,
innit?

offline brendan ether from the beach (obx, NC) (United States) on 2002-06-11 06:58 [#00259785]
Points: 796 Status: Addict

yeah, i guess they did in some ways,,, but even in the wall,
there were lots of those electronic elements. i still think
they would have leaned toward the electronic side of music.
sure, they might have still kept david gilmour's fantastic
guitar,,,

offline Ctrl Alt Del from Ft. Worth (United States) on 2002-06-11 06:59 [#00259788]

No way in hell would they have given up the keyboards. No
way no how.

yeah, opecks!!! that could be considered an early techno
tune, right?

i thought about that a while back when i first started
listening to floyd..also, the first song on the "obcurred by
clouds" album starts out sounding just like a rave,,,

And Welcome to the Machine, too, that really has a cold,
electronic feel. They were big innovators... decades before
Radiohead, they were using electronics HEAVILY in their
albums. Not too shabby at all.

i say they would be electronic.

that's my story and i'm stickin to it.

offline Ctrl Alt Del from Ft. Worth (United States) on 2002-06-11 07:06 [#00259798]

DONT SAY THAT!!

That reminds me of a country song my mom used to play when I
was a child. Probably one of the main reasons why Im so
twisted.

I always wanted to go down to Austin, TX to see the Pink
Floyd laser show, its supposed to be kick ass.

offline brendan ether from the beach (obx, NC) (United States) on 2002-06-11 07:07 [#00259800]

they influenced electronic music,,, maybe even were partly
responsible for the birth of techno and electronic dance,
etc.

offline brendan ether from the beach (obx, NC) (United States) on 2002-06-11 07:08 [#00259802]

yeah, they had PF laser show in Virginia too,,, but it was
sold out before i could get tickets,,, damn ticketmaster too
hell,,,

Hehe, Ticketmaster fucked me over good when I wanted to see
Rage Agianst the Machine. Had to pay some ticket scalper $75
instead of $50. It was expensive, but worth it.

Dark Side of the Moon definately says to me that they are
electronic. You can tell its got electronic sounds,
including some old school synth stuff.

Welcome to the Machine for sure also stuff like on the on
the run and parts of animals... but they are more a rock

and drums

I would have to say that they are not really, i also think
that whoever said they might have been influencial with on
the run.

I don't think so really because they were considered to be a
rock band so nobody really thouhgt of it in those terms. I
honestly think that when kraftwerk released autobahn the
year after that people really started thinking about
electronic music.

But i am not sure if jarre had done anything by then??

Also you have to remember that ralf and florian by kraftwerk
cam out in 71 and that was synths with flutes. Awesome!!!

Anyway pick floyd are kick ass up until the the final cut.
