The monolith means nothing and everything at the same
time...

Whenever the monolith shows up you notice a huge leap in
evolution follows. So whatever power that thing has is
advancing mankind to the next level when it shows up.

That's my interpretation anyway.

I thought it was god or something like that

I also thought it was absolutely nothing

It is god in a certain sense. We dont know what it is, where
it came from, or what its true purpose is...

But yes, it does help evolution along whenever it comes in
contact with another life form...

I suggest you watch 2010: oddessy two

You learn more about the monolith.

I've read both books 2001 and 2010

But yes, you wont learn much more in 2010, but you will some
more of the monoliths capabilities.

Yes that is HAL in my avatar

No Kubrick didn't direct 2010.

i downloaded a bunch of HAL sounds for my computer...

when u try to shut it down, it says:
"Im sorry Dave.... I'm afraid I can't do that."
....in that FREAKISHLY cool voice...

"I am fully operational and all my cuircuts are functioning
perfectly".....when my copmuter starts up...

its the best... now if only i could buy a big glowing eye
power light for my case...
